Boiling in water for a long time is the other way besides putting them in an oven.

i just finished the brake in procedure with the my big block firestorm. this thing has a bunch of power i just ordered some pro line dirt hawgs( the o.s 21 vg turned the stock tires into racing slicks after a day of running it. I am a bit worried about how much compression the engine has lost since i broke it in i can now turn it over with my thumb if i try really hard. this was not even close to possible before the brake in. is this normal? also what gearing are people using on there big block firestorms i herd about using a jato gear is there any other parts i need to make it work or do i have to modify it some way? the fire storm is way to under geared with the big block moter it will weely on a dime now.

The jato pad will work and it helps to install an aluminum actuator arm (I have the newera version but I think hotracing makes one too). You should feel the compression stroke for a few gallons after break in, though. If it starts to flame out when idling you definitely have a problem.

Hey guys good to see that everybody is still in here burnings up the pages and the nitro. I havent been doing much driving at all lately, the weater is terrible anymore. i have a dirt one setup now with the stock 3.0 in it. After giving the motor the same treatment as the hypers this little thing is actually pretty amazing. It has more power than i would have ever guessed. The street one has done nothing but sit on the shelf for the last 2 months now. I even have another 8 port race with boost that is still in the box. The gearing problem is still there but still fast. The gearing that would work the best for the dirt hawgs on a big block is prob a Axial19 or 20 / revo36 spurr

ok i looked up the revo spur gear it looks like it has a biger hole in the center of it then the firestorm spurr gear. do i need to order some kind of bearing or spacer to go inside to make it work on the firestorm?

You can use a bearing or bushing, I think its 5 or 6mm, can't remember what I used, but its a standard size that is common.

Video from this summer with the MT2 - it wasn't tuned properly, had too cold of a glow plug in it.

hey guys
I know this isn't the marketplace. But... $250 + shipping= 15 tank old Firestorm, MGT 3.0 that needs a new engine, a 3PM FM radio and a ton of spare parts (almost enough to build a new MGT).

I need to buy a new beater, some drunk t-boned my truck and winter id almost here. Any one interested this?

Hey guys, I just traded my MGT for a Firestorm with only 10 or so tanks through it that is still real clean, and should be recieving it mid to late next week.

Are there any weak links i need to know of right off the bat? From everything i have seen so far, the firestorm is an awesome built truck that is extremely fast right out of the box. The videos i have seen make me pretty anxious to try one out. I will be reading some of this thread soon, but instead of sifting through 200 pages, i thought someone might be able to let me know of anything i might want to do to make the truck stronger.

It also looks like ill be getting some high speed wheelie action out of this beast

The only other question i have right now, is, does the firestorm have standard 12mm hex hub wheels all around? I have a set of 4 rear traxxas stampede hpi wheels with some pretty nice tires on them that i would like to run if possible. Anyone know if they will fit fine without rubbing? The front is the only thing im worried about. Hopefully it has enough offset to keep from rubbing the arms or anything.

Eric

Anyone know if rear electric traxxas stampede wheels will fit all around on the firestorm? The ones i have are HPI wheels.

Welcome cummins. I don't know what size of hex the stampede uses, but the firestorm has 12mm hex heads, though. I think stampede tires are 5 inch or so and if you run them you will definitely need to change the gearing to compensate for the size because you will lose a lot of bottom end. If you send me your email address via pm I can send you a gearing calculator.
There is not much to do with the storm other than put loctite on the servo saver and most people replace the stock servo with a metal gear high torque version. The stock clutch spring breaks often and is best replaced with a two or three shoe savage clutch. A few people run big block engines but for the most part the G3 is pretty good.

Here are photos of my e firestorm. I am waiting for the charger and LiPOs to come but for the most part its ready to go. I will do some upgrades after a while but want to get the motot tweaked first. It has a Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro and Novak 10.5T motor in it and I have 3s and 4s lipos ready to run on it.

It depends on if they use 12mm hubs but I expect they would be larger for the summit. I ran larger tires on the storm once and it kind of sucked - made the truck handle poorly. Its really designed for smaller tires. Newera models sells a hub conversion kit to 17mm for the firestorm.

I dont think there is a big differance between the two if the electric is lighter its not by much. I have a electric that i bought for parts off of ebay and all 3 of my storms weigh the exact same at just a touch over 4.5 lbs. I wish my computer wasnt down so i could uoad some pics and video. For anybody that wants to keep it on the road and run 1/8 foams you have to take and cut the gears off the end of old clutch bells and make a bracket to have a idler gear inbetween the clutch and spurr. Now there is a 16 tooth clutch bell with a 22 and 14 tooth idler driving a 20 tooth spurr gear to give it a 5.13 final. I can switch the 20 and 22 around to go from top speed to acceleration.. I am not sure of the exact top speed now since the radar gun wont pick it up anymore and i havent followed it in a car but it is well up into the high 70's to low 80's

What engine are you running? I would like to see the idler setup you have. Sounds pretty wild!

Anyone have a round about on the speed of a stock firestorm? I saw 49mph somewhere, but didnt know how accurate that was.

I clocked an e-firestorm at 49 mph but that was the e-firestorm flux (stock brushless motor) with a lipo and an extra tooth on the spur gear... almost stock other than the battery and gear

shortly after clocking that speed, he crashed it at full speed and the electronics went haywire (got water in the ESC)but the chassis itself was perfectly fine!!

then again, we are in the nitro forum, maybe the e-firstorm specs are irrelevant ?
