RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
There are also certain kinds of bits you can get that are good at driving out bolts with threaded heads. You drill out the head of the bolt or screw a little then use this second bit to grip the little hole. I am seeking a set that are small enough for RC.
Blue loctite is whats usually recommended (except for manuals that suggest red). I almost never strip bolts since switching to a set of Integy tools. They are worth every penny. Be careful when screwing out the bolts that you don't dig into the head. If you go down just far enough the head will just come off. Their removal is a touchy procedure, if the bolts snap you will likely lose the crankcase. Make sure they will stick out far enough with their heads removed so you can twist them out easily.

Well I got my firestorm out for break- in today. i did some upgrades like 3 shoe clutch, Spectrum Sr300 reciever, 1600 mAh Hump Pack and all went well. The DX3S is awsome on this truck. The next purchace will be a metal servo for the steering and i'm good to go!
Thanks everyone for their input!

Problem.
Started up my Firestorm today, with 16% fuel for the first time. It kept running for a few minutes, then the rpm started to drop and i turned the reciever sensetivity screw and the idle screw on the car, didn't help. Tried to rev it up really, it struggled to.. Btw, it was -1 Celsius outside..

Part of your problem is the fuel.Higher content Nitro will give more RPMs....
There are so many possibilities of problems that could be named.I'd suggest running 20% Nitro and watch the truck's temps carefully.

So, Nate.. If i don't want to change the fuel, should i try to set the needles back to the factory settings?
Because i don't want to change fuel, first because the store i'm buying at don't have 20% and second i have 2 litres of fuel left..

Go back to stock settings and go from there,it will run ok on 16%.I agree 20% would be better but no need in wasting fuel so reset and run it.When you need more fuel bump it up to 20 if you can you will get better performance. When I run my stuff at 40 degrees or colder I use a old sock to cover the head to help keep heat in the motor works great[ note a old stinky one works best]Good luck

Thanks, 241_racing!
About the sock, Cani have tin or aluminum foli around the head to keep it warm? I've seen it on some other peoples pictures and they have foli around the head!

I decided to give up on fixing my old engine(after about an hour of not getting anywhere[sm=48_48.gif]) so I thought it was a good excuse to buy a CV-RX!! Is it a direct drop-in and can I use the stock pipe? Is there anything else i should know about this engine?

RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
I just did a rollout and speed calculation in the MT2 thread and thought I would post the Firestorm's numbers.
The breakdown of the calculation is:
Drive ratio is the ratio of spur gear to clutch bell, 50/19 is 2.63 - the clutch bell turns this many times to turn the spur gear once.
The transmission ratio is known but can be verified by marking a wheel and the flywheel and determining how many tire rotations it takes to turn the wheel once - 4.11 for the regular FS. Its easier to determine this by the rolling procedure instead of calculating it although the number is published.
Multiply the drive ratio by the transmission ratio - 10.8. This can be verified by seeing how many clutch bell rotations it takes to turn the wheels one complete turn. I did this by marking the clutch bell and tire.
A 4.5 inch tire has a circumference of 359mm (I use metric here because millimeter is a much more convenient unit to use compared to inches).
So if it takes 10.8 flywheel=clutch bell=crankshaft turns to move the wheel 359mm, then 359/10.8 gives the distance turned for a single flywheel rotation - 33.2mm per engine rotation. That is the rollout number.
So if it turns 33.2mm per rotation, multiply by 30,000 rotations per minute gives: 995495mm/minute
Multiply by 60/1000000 to convert from mm/min to km/hr
60km/h = 37 MPH.
I have full confidence this calculation is tight but am open to others going over it.

I decided to get a Spektrum radio, likely one of the DX3's.
I want a 2-speed tranny option of the storm. Its the only way to get some serious speed. The MT2 as well, from what I hear the on road tranny doesn't cut it.
Neweramodels makes a big block mount that should put the .28 in it.

My storm is easy to start when cold, but after it warms up it wont start for **** unless I put the trim way up. What could cause this?

I always put the trim up a bit to start it up,and prime it each time it shuts off...There could be your problem. Are you priming it after each shut down?

Nope, I never really thought that I had to. I bet that's the problem though. I'll check it out once I get some more fuel lol Thanks [>:]
