I stuck a rubber handle from one of my hex wrenches in between the flyweel and the bottom chassis. It worked perfect.

WOW...

So I put the 3 shoe clutch system into my Firestorm today. "If you are wondering why go to the Noisy Firestorm Thread" and it makes a huge difference.

I put the 21 tooth "which much to my surprise fits perfectly even though the shoes are bigger" And decided to do a test.

With the higher stall speed it launches perfectly. I had it at a stand still on grass and Hit the throttle It did a wheelie stand and flipped back. So then I figured I would try it on asphalt. Same thing Whellied up and bounced off the batt pack.

So I figured the slipper was to tight, I decided to readjust the slipper. I put it 6 turns out according to the manual, and had the same results.

This may be my new fav hop up. "Not to mention no more wrap around spring"

I finally got my Firestorm and all the upgrades.

*JR 310 synthesized FM receiver
*High torque metal throttle and steering servos
*6V hump pack
*Switch with lead charge
*21T clutch bell
*HPI clutch shoes. (composite buggy style)
*40wt in front shocks and 25wt in rear

***I could not get the diff case opened. They put some serious loc tite on the screws.***

***Motor has a smooth power band with 21T clutch bell. It feels like a good .12 motor***

***Track debut is tomorrow. I will post the results***

While at it i took the diff out to give it a bit of a lube, i couldn't seem to get the 2 half's to separate though.

Any tips?

How much grease do you guys put in?
So how did you guys get the diff separated?
Does it just pull apart once the 4 screws are removed, or do i need to somehow remove the driveshaft holder?

Should i just out a smear of grease or should i pack it in fairly tight?

I will be using Mugen Seiki Super Joint Grease, what are you guys using?

Yeah man, once the 4 screws are out it opens up easy, you will want to use a good quality hex wrench to get the screws out i.e. Hudy etc. The drive cups are seperate to each other. I used 7000wt diff oil (the HPI stuff that came with my Hellfire SS) in my Firestorm diff, it has worked really well and doesn't leak out either.

Thanks mate

Hmmmmm Oil,

3 more questions please.

Is this better than grease?

Does it not leak out?

Which is thought of to be better?

Yip diff oil is better than grease, it gives you the opportunity to tune the diff with different weight oils.

The Firestorm diff is a sealed diff so the oil will not leak out. You will see the seals when you open the diff up, there are 3 of them.

3 of them? I only have the clear rubber gasket thats in between the diff.

Also, how much full do you fill it? and lube all other gears before assembling, right?

The other 2 seals are for the drive cup shafts, they call them 'x-rings' in the manual part number is 86898.

I put the two 10T bevel gears into one half of the diff case and put oil in to just cover the gears, then put the other half of the diff case on and screwed it closed.

hey guys ,got my firestorm the other day!

didnt have much of a chance to take it out though because of the weather. Finaly got it out yesterday and today.

couple of questions though.

1. After breaking in the engine , i tried to tune the engine so tried to lean it by an eighth of a turn clockwise , this made the performance worse so i tried another eighth and it was worse again. i returned the the needle back to base setting then gave it an eighth of a turn anti clockwise and performance was great (as far as i can tell) . I then adjusted the low speed needle so and it runs well. My question is ....have i done the engine any damage since it looks like i broke in the engine while it was running lean ??

also performance is as good as i can get it and temp is at around 180 f. that sounds kinda low?

2. The car runs in a straight line and it turns right really well but turns left like a battleship . with the wheels off the deck and left and right turn is applied there is no visable difference between the two. any ideas?

lastly how can i adjust the break other than with the adjustment screw ? doesnt break well and if i adjust the break screw it just produces break drag.

Love my firestorm though, took it to an old abandoned bmx track today , its pretty big. takes about a minute and a half to get round ( longer if your as bad as me and run off!!).

cheers

for the brakes and steering you will just ahve to get stronger servos. The servos are very week.

and if you broke it in at factory settings then I doubt you had any damage to the engine.

And the way I see it is screw the temps. If it is a cold day out then you may not get that kind of temperature. Just tune it for performance and make sure some smoke is still coming out

I had the same problem, fixed it by tightening up the servo saver a little bit. Now it turns on a dime in both directions.

Quick question here for all you multi RC car owners.

What shells/body's fit on the firestorm body?

Seems to me by far the most interesting are the Savage shells,
I really like the Land Rover Defender, Cayenne, Plymouth Hemi Cuda, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet El Camino SS bodyshells, but would they fit on a Firestorm?

I know our cars are still fairly new, but has anyone found anywhere i can purchase unpainted Firestorm body's?

I ended up fitting 2 Tower Pro MG 995 Servo's.

Along with the Rx hump and tightening up the servo saver, it's totally transformed my Firestorm, steering is now a lot quicker and a damn site stronger.

Likewise with the T&B servo, i am now able to lock up the rear wheel through a whole tank of Nitro on tarmac.

It's made a huge difference to how the car feels and responds.

I've got a Spextrum DSM 2.4ghz kit coming later this week, i'll fit that to my Hitec CRX and it's job done

They don't deliver outside the US according to the website either.

I'll have a look around the usual European sites.

If anyone can confirm that other bodys for sure fit, i'd much appreciate it.

It may sound vague but I have fit just about anything in the right model scale (1/10 , 1/8) to just about any truck or car you can name. You just need some good imagination and ability to move body stands around and most of the time just lengthen them. (Body stands)[:-]

Ive just finished tightening up the servo saver ( about 2 and a half turns tighter) , Coz im a total newbie it took me all night . Anyway its back together now and il take it for a test run tomorrow or wednesday if the weather holds.

When its time for me to buy my new servos should i replace the reciever pack aswell or just leave it?
