Wow why did you set it so high. I did not want to take the silver head apart since it was already sealed up, so just didnt mess with it at all. Literally took it out of the box, sprayed some Corosion X in it then plugged it back up until i finally put it in the truck.

Well...just got done running. Will upload vids in a couple minutes after i tear the engine down. Last run it shut off instantly.... crank spins over then stopped.

Just pulled the head off...and the piston and rod fell out with the sleeve. Broke the pin off the crank

*BTW... at least breaking it didnt come without goals... best run of the session... 62.5mph.. calculations say thats roughly 39000rpm.

Can you post a pic so I can see it. I have never had a crank let go so that makes a first. 1 con rod (bad crash flipped over and over revved after losing the batterties) and have tore 3 pistons in half. That messed up the crank on 2 of them but wasn't the original problem. It is just what happened when it let go at max rpm but still never broke.

ill grab a pic of the crank when i tear it down. Here is the pin though.

I thought it was the rod broke at first myself when i spun the crank and it would stop. Its to be expected with anything modified...im not mad. It was screaming for sure... maybe 39000ish is a little too much for the Hypers lol.

heres the crank.... camera sucks, but it was pretty clean break.

And another problem i found when i pulled the flywheel...the damn bearing seal came out. But i know why that happened..and it was my fault.

So what do you think of the crank work now that you have it out and can compare it to stock

I did some speed runs today myself. I got the 3.3 firestorm topped out at 58.1mph, i dont know if thats right or not but i measured out 200ft and got my little brother to use the stop watch and got the feet per second, then used a conversion online and it gave me the speed. My other three runs were 56.3, 57.6, and 56.8. Im wondering if my brother was hitting the start/stop button on the stop watch at the wrong time because its alot faster than i expected. Im gonna use a gps tomorrow and use that to get the mph too.

If you are using the gearing available for Firestorms...id say the times were a little off. The best you can get with bolt on stuff is a 8.22 final (46 spur, 23 clutchbell)... and on around 102-104mm tires, would require around 39,000-40,000rpm to run 58mph. But dont know what you are using for gearing...so cant say for sure.

If you are getting high 50's out of a stock TRX 3.3... im for sure buying one though and having Road Warrior work his magic on it.

Tim... the crank work looks awesome. Not as radical as the crank in the other one..but very nice. Cant wait for the new one so i can get it back running again. Bought the crank earlier...so should be on its way to you this week.

I dont think its accurate at all the more i think about it. Its stock gearing with some bald proline speed hawgs on stock rear rims. I was expecting like 55ish tops. Im gonna use the gps when i get a chance and that should be more accurate. How do you calculate your rpms? Id like to find out what its revving to. One thing for sure is that the front wheels dont like the ground at all haha.

I use a gear ratio program..just plug in the trans ratio, spur & clutchbell, tire diameter then plug in RPM numbers until it shows the speed that was obtained. Not 100% accurate since it doesnt account for drivetrain resistence, wind resistence, etc. but its close enough

Stock gearing (19/50) with those tires (89mm) works out to about 33mph if turning around 35000rpm. Not sure if those tires balloon alot.. so we'll say maybe 95mm if they do.. that would be around 36mph @ 35000rpm. 58mph with that setup, would require about 57000rpm.

Mine spent alot of time picking the front tires up and wanting to do backflips too with the suspension setup pretty soft. Right now, i have modified OFNA Pirate shocks in the rear with the shafts out of the stock HPI shocks, with about an inch of preload...and Duratrax shocks up front with yellow variable rate springs up front...and its pretty stiff not that it doesnt try doing wheelies... but im gonna change the springs up front to get a bit better weight transfer on launch as its too stiff now.

Fuel I solved out carb issue maybe. I found and bored out 2 carb bodies so I will be sending one of them your way with the crank. It is not radicaly huge it is the same size as the lrp .28 carb that is sitting on the shelf. There also is some of the needles in the carb but no seals as they are all shot. It's not a work of art as it is just a demo piece to see if it works any better

Well today was the first day running it full trigger with the 2 speed. Power and rpm are not a issue at all. Traction and plastic gears seem to be the next obstacle to overcome. The new motor just screams it has to be right around 40000+ rpm. The 2 stroke nitro sound turns into a high pitch humm on the top. If it does get traction 132' will get destroyed. The day ended on the third tank after stripping the teeth off first and second hitting it from a stop.

Didn't try the bigger carb yet. Still have some leamimg out to do on the one on it now. It is going to need it the next time out though the max temp with the head wrapped is right around 200

nice...time to get some new video of it!

I put the purple head in mine last night and started it up...dont hear any clanging so rod play isnt too sloppy.. but rained all day today so didnt get a chance to test it.

I guess the Traxxas gears are the same mesh as the HPI, as the pinions i took off my RS4 walk pretty nicely on the spurs on the truck. So thought i might have got lucky...but the threads on the Traxxas clutchbell are different then HPI, so couldnt put them on. Gonna pull the T3.0 out of my RS4 to do some porting, so gonna see about sticking the clutchbell on the truck and see if the gears infact mesh up nice. If so.. should be able to get a pretty good boost...as id be going from 16/20's to 19/23's.

A video will come as soon as I get a new video camera. Last one broke so we will see. Refund comes next week so that will be nice. That gearing would nelp you out emensely. Do you have 132 marked out now to see if you get topped out by then or not with your current gearing.

yea i have 132ft marked out over at my test track... just havent got to make any passes there. The first time i tried, is when it stripped the hex's in the wheels. Nice to be able to have a place that the owner doesnt care how much prep i do. Ive spent quite a few days there laying down rubber, and have sprayed down almost 5 gallons of VHT.

If the HPI pinions work out... ill be getting another HPI clutchbell, as it allows the use of better shoes anyway vs the Traxxas one, and the gearing options will be much better. Will be able to do play with 17/21, 18/22, 19/23 pinions, 37/41 and 41/45 spurs. And if it does work out, and i can pull around the same RPM, should be able to crack 70mph with 23/37 2nd gear.

Yea i will probably mess with that after i run it now, and see what it does. Only did a little flow porting on the sleeve and knife edged the rod.

I did mod the stock crank out of the 4 port Hyper... but suprisingly, that crank was quite different then the cranks in the motors from you. Forgot to take pics before putting it back together, but will snap some next time i pull it apart.
