Did get the goods. Crank looks awesome. Gonna try popping it in the motor tomorrow along with building the carb, but its supose to rain the next couple days so doubt ill get to run it til the end of the week or the weekend.

The crank face is pretty standard it is the induction where the magic happens. Make yours match that and your in business.

Had the truck out today and ran a couple of tanks throught it. The hyper with a larger carb runs phenominal. According to the spehtum it is topping out at 64 with 78mm foams and a 6.35 final. It is the traction issue that is killing me because it will top out in under 132 with a easy start. If it takes off on concrete it will stand straight up on the wing but dont have anywhere local that is all concrete. The 2 speed gearing is still on back order with no idea of when they will get more in.

nice. I have not even messed with mine. Waiting on glow plugs to show up... but the starting issue kinda has me uninterested in even messing with it right now, along with getting my boats ready for the record trials.

Maybe tomorrow night ill at least get the engine back together with the new crank and hpi clutchbell on with the 19/23 pinions.

Jube this is just for your consideration.

    HPI Nitro Star F4.1-0.94 @ 20,250 rpm 48.60 oz-in @ 18,000 rpm 33,500 rpm
    TRX 3.3 Pullstart-1.06 @ 31,250 rpm 37.49 oz-in @ 19,500 rpm 37,750 rpm-$110.00 on ebay

This would save you time and money without having to buy the big block mounts. You will still have to turn your servo around and redo the linkages. Plus a full exhaust. The 3.3 is just a cheaper alternative. If your still wanting to do a big block spend a little bit more and go with a lrp .28. It is one of the cheapest biggest power engines you can buy!!!

    LRP Z .28R Spec.3 Truggy 1.87 @ 27,200 rpm 70.77 oz-in @ 25,600 rpm 42,800 rpm-$165.00 on ebay

This is what the real dyno numbers are for these engines not the hyped up manufacturer numbers. Either way you go if you put one of those motors in you better be wearing a helmet when behind it in gravel. I got hit in the face with a loose rock in the parking lot the last time out and it left a big red mark and hurts like hell still.

The diff will hold up. Take it apart and put 2 more shims behind each gear inside it. Use 50,000 wt oil. What are your plans with the truck?

The diff will definetely hold up. The Firestorm has all metal gears. I'll have to find my reciept to get part #, but i used Mugen shim's in mine.

I used 100K diff fluid in mine. I still get a bit of diff steer on launches when it hooks though, so next time i tear it apart im gonna try out some 300K and maybe some 500K in it, if i dont just completely lock it. But i could also play with suspension preload a bit more.

if i decide to lock mine, i'll probably go the route of indefintely locking it with jb weld. I tried playdough once before and didnt seem to have good experience with it.

I have thought about it. There is a tube of quick steel next to the truck. It is just one of those things that it will never come apart again. I have broke the 13tooth gear before and don't want to buy a whole new assembly if it does happen again

The LOSI 454 is very similar if not identical to the LRP except for the carb and head (maybe the metallurgy but who can test that).  They go on ebay for as low as 110 USD.

yea... but i think if i break a gear, that will give me a good reason to adapt the Rustler diff and have the 2.72 gear ratio instead of the 4.11

Well its nice outside and if it wasn't for the fact that the gearing still isn't here. I would be able to make a nice little video. Got a new video camera and the titanium tubing came today so everything is fitted to the truck but the gears. The tubing made it look real nice and clean. It is 5mm id by 6mm od so it can have the stock firestorm top shaft and the ofna 2 speed slid right on for the most part. I only needed about a inch of the tubing and have about six feet left. So if anybody has a 6mm id 2 speed it will work alot nicer and be lighter than any other setup.

which engine do you recommend to improve the performance of the fire and that something other than the engine can do? I have clutch bell 19 or 21 tooth ... listen to ideas ... I'm undecided

JUBE... im partial to the Hyper 21 since thats what ive been running in mine. But there are pleanty of other engines you could put in that will make it run very good. Just depends on how much $$ you wanna spend. I might even try my OS.18 in mine.

Other then engine...if you are gonna stay single speed...i'd at least look into getting the Integy 23T pinion & 46T spur if you want just that will just bolt on. That will give you an 8.22 final. That gearing on around a 105mm tire should run 50+mph with whatever engine if you can turn up 35000+rpm and still have good low end.

Tim.. how tight is that tubing over the stock input shaft? How are you securing it?I finally got the engine all back together, along with the bigger carb converted over for remote needle. Just need to mount it now and get it out road in the near future. My drag wheels & tires are supose to finally be here next week, along with the donut for my starter, so hopefully now wont have to take the wheels off to start it.

I recommend going with single speed if you are bashing since you get to keep the slipper clutch. I don't have the strongest .21 in it (OS .21VG) but it has lightning acceleration and a 50+ mph speed with 36/18 or 34/18 gearing and still has a lot of low end to be bashed well. If I'd do it again I would consider the OS .18 tz with 1 m gearing.

I remember a movie of a guy on here (I think he was in Greece) who put a tz in his and just used a 21 tooth clutch bell and the truck was pretty much undriveable necessitating the lower gearing.
