RE: -=OFFICIAL HPI FIRESTORM THREAD=-
in reply to 46u, my choice was only influenced by the fact that none of the lhs around here were going to carry parts for them unless you order them. And at this point ive seen them both run and the way they look and if mototr are kept stock the gt2 is faster, but i do like the layout and the cleanliness of the firestorm, and if they do become popular and lhs start stocking parts instead of having to order them i will buy one again..just racing makes it hard when you have to order all your parts and wait for them..good luck i hope you enjoy yours.

Yeah I can wait on parts.... I'm just getting it to build an awesome track at my ranch [sm=shades_smile.gif]. We have a motocross track but I don't think an R/C car would make the jumps hehe.....any suggestions for a track layout/design?!

2 cents worth: i just won the a main with my firestorm. except for the cheezy pipe coupler giving up (bahhhaaa) and the fact that the servo saver was messed up out the box it did very well for a rtr bone stock. i have a hobby shop and cant find any spare parts yet so take it easy on the bashing till parts show up. i havent driven a gt2 yet but one pooped out in the main, dont know why. our indoor offroad track is small and tight this may have some bearing on the results. wish it had a hsn and lsn so i could tune it my way.
oops i stand corrected it does have both hsn and lsn didnt see the lsn on the back side i am used to lsn being at throttle arm end.

Parts for me are not a problem I order them off line as the closes hobby shop to me is about 60 miles one way and they mostly carry crafts not much RC stuff and when we did have a local hobby shop most times they had to ordered a part and I could order and get it quicker then they could. We have not had a good hobby shop around here in over 20 years. If I had all the money in the extra parts I keep around for all my RC vehicles I could buy a least a couple more RC trucks or cars. If you race you better keep plenty of spares on hand!!!!!!! When I go to the track if anyone breaks something they come to me first. I just hope HPI makes the Firestorm in a SS kit but since they never made a Rush in a kit I am not going to get my hopes up.

haha that sounds like a good deal. Please excuse the noobness.... but what does SS mean? The non-RTR version? As in a kit? My firestorm finally got shipped today... it took them like three days just to ship it

ss stands for "super sport". hpi puts that little title on all of their kits because they are upgraded versions of the rtr. sort of like ae with their "factory team" thing. generally hpi's ss kits have an upgraded drivetrain, motor, and anything else they can think of but with no electronics so you can pick your own.

Have not looked but it normally takes a little time on new vehicles for parts to show up. The SS Hellfire is the exception to the rule and does not come with an engine. I much prefer kits with out engines.

I just ordered one from tower with it being $261 plus $25 off its a steal. It will be here by the end of next week.
Truck looks very promising, if it uses the same plastic construction as my Baja and my past Savages this will be a real treat. I'm sure it will hold up, just would like to see actually how race worthy it really is. I really like the idea of a steel gear diff that can be tuned with oil, no more one race, then ball diff feels gritty again! I'm sure there will be plenty of parts comming soon, manufactures always release a car before the parts arrive.
I'll give it a good shake down once it arrives and post back a report.

it came in and it rips! I broke it in and have not started to tune the high speed needle and it is already pretty quick... tomorrow i will post pics of it in the daylight[sm=thumbup.gif] i love it already.....now for the BAD [:'(] tower hobbies was late on the shipping and when it got here the box was almost completely destroyed because they didn't package it well at all.... I literally reached in the side of the box where it was torn and pulled out loose parts....[:@] good thing everything was there

im glad someone else has one now to compare notes with. you might want to keep an eye on the pipe coupler if you do any lawn dart manuvers. if it gives like mine did you can use a standard 1/10 pipe coupler with some force. mine hasnt failed since. cant wait till the area track does its monthly change over to offroad. theres a firestorm ah brewin [sm=punching.gif] lol
