    the high and low needles need to be set to flush, the idle doesn't have a setting really. To set the idle needle, pull off the air filter so you can see down the carb, adjust the needle (with the engine off but the electronics on) so that the carb is always open at least 1mm, even when braking.

    Simple as that! Try downloading the Firestorm manual for HPIs website, will save you a lot of time asking around on here. There are many basic setups which are in the manual.



    On a separate note, I was setting up my idle and carb settings yesterday after an engine tear down, and noticed that the linkages on my throttle servo do not pull my carb fully open under WOT. It seems the throttle servo horn is not quite long enough to pull the carb fully open. I only get about 80% open! And yes, I played around with the linkages etc, I know it is just down the to servo arm length.

    I think I might have a go at trying to extend my servo arm so I can get a 100% open carb, hopefully here is some performance I have been missing!

    Anyone else noticed this?

    when pick up the back wheels they spin in opp direction fine when i put the truck on the ground and push it forward or back it moves but i have to push really hard put if i pull the pull start out it will roll fine until it goes all the way in then it pushs hard again

    thanks for the tuning tip, i managed to get my firestorm working again! My situation is that the truck goes really well atm, but it does seem to be using quite alot of fuel and more smoke is coming out of the exhaust than i would have expected when it is tuned, but when i lean it out the engine just cuts off when i accellerate.

    Do u think i shud leave it as it is, or try to improve the fuel comsumption?

    nope, you need a flywheel with three posts on, the storm has a two post flywheel for a two piece clutch

    I'm still trying to figure out if those composite a-arms are for racing ONLY.Stiffer nylon tends to snap easier don't they??Obviously not,according to RPM....[sm=confused.gif]Is HPI going to start developing a RPM alternative or what!

    could try, but I doubt it will make up a full circle, or the they might not have the right curve (from being a different diameter when put together)

    So, anyone else noticed they cant get the carb opened fully with the stock linkages? Mine couldnt get 100% open without screwing the idle needle right in. So I added about 4mm to the length of my servo arm and now I get full throttle!

    Does the 2 piece savage clutch set forms a full circle when installed in a firestorm flywheel??

    I already installed the 2 pieces from the 3pc set and it doesn't form a full circle, Is that bad? should I try running it?

    Okay I just got back, I tried running the new clutch and here are the results:

    1. Idles perfectly, meaning the clutch shoes does not touch the clutch bell during idle..

    2. The springs that came with the 3pc clutch set are too hard for the storm, the clutch shoe engages the clutch bell softly at LOW rpm resulting to a little bit poor acceleration.. You can hear the sound of the cluth slipping inside the bell (wissing sound)..

    3. At MID and HIGH rpm the clutch shoe engages the clutch bell hard, the diffrence with the stock clutch are now very noticable.. At this point you can really feel all the power from the engine are fully transfered to the transmission.. Wheelies when you floor it after exiting a turn! Damn! these teflon clutch are great!

    This are initial results only, performance may vary after the clutch shoe are fully settled and or sitted.. Will post results again after 2-3 tanks of run..

    tighten your servo saver, and on your transmitter adjust the d/r knob till you get better response from the steering. Check your batteries or hump pack are full

    If you're still not happy, get a better servo

    A high torque steering servo won't effect the radius.It will effect Mid and High speed turns.

    Put some thicker oil in your diff. Turning is greatly improved.
    I'm currently using 10W 40 motor oil in my diff and it turns on a dime. Off-throttle it turns a little bit too hard and is very easy to oversteer, but fun to catch by getting back on the throttle.
    Try it, it's a cheap thing to try.

    Hey Y'all. I'm lookin for a 13t diff pinion with a 6mm shank to match up with my hellfire 43t diff. Its all goin in a Mad Force axle. Everything seems to be 8mm. Need help.

    I know how everyone loves a few photos, I know I do!

    Here are a few I just took of my Firestorm with its road setup, you can see the mod I did to the throttle servo arm to make sure I was getting 100% open carb while full throttle. I found my servo horn wasn't long enough to pull the carb fully open. It flies now, have a 21 tooth clutch bell and it nearly wheelies with the stock engine.


    Got my temps to be around 250, as I know a few people have said that the HPI recommendations are a little conservative, which I suppose is so they don't get loads of returns from people leaning out too much. Anyway, there is plenty of smoke at all rev ranges, no bogging, and the pinch test shows my low speed is about perfect too.

    Finally got my Firestorm running just how I want it!

    You need to get better at asking questions. I barely understand you, how do you expect us to help you like that?

    Did you open the transmission case and check the gears? When you say it will not move on the ground... with the engine running? or trying to move it by hand?
    If it's with the engine running and revving without moving, it's your clutch.
    If it's with the engine off and you can't move it, it's the transmission/Driveline/Brakes. Use your manual to help you identify parts and check them.
