IM new to nitro and have had my firestorm for 4 weeks now and the first day i broke the bulkhead waited a week fixed it and the clutch went and this is me just trying to tune the damn thing get the clutch was fixed and i ran it about 10 min started it again and broke the pull start safe to say now i used a drill with the one way bult and its running really nice the steering is kinda bad played with the d/r a little better its revin kinda high the brake shut it off a couple of days ago and played with the lsn a little better any segestions the throttle trim is all the wat closed and its high rmps

Already played with DR knob and trims, maybe I'm just used to less power and smaller scale? My LHS told me to tighten the slipper clutch which makes sense since it has been making a little bit of a squeak when driving real slow. Also, he told me to try and tune the engine a little more for grass running.

How much for a decent servo and can I find one that will be a direct fit?

Ive heard that lots of people have replaced the stock servo with a Hitec 645mg, although I dont know if it is a direct fit.
And what is the purpose of the D/R knob, I have never touched it in my life.

From what I have seen it controls how sharp your tires turn when you steer.

I use the Futaba S3305 MG BB High Torque steering servo.It is a direct fit.(Also tighten the servo saver nut when your replacing the servo.)

HS645MG is plenty gear for it and yes its a drop in................go to Tower Site a type in HS645MG and it will take you right to it [&o]

Has anyone got a Stock Firestorm to do wheelies or am I just dreaming? I have fiddled around with the tuning a little but it hasnt helped that much.

I have had mine do a few after coming out a skid, infact I have had mine flip on to its back once. I have yet to get it to do one off the line.

No,your not dreaming.If you do a good break-in,It'll wheelie for you!I did wheelies all the time-Even with the 21 tooth clutch bell!!!A sure-fire' break-in is what I think enabled it to wheelie.

my firestorm does wheelies no problem. i just tap the brakes a little and hit the throttle and it wheelies everytime (with the occaional flipping over onto its roof.)

well mine is suppose to come in today but i probably wont have it until tomorrow and i cant wait, i've been reading so much about what has gone wrong and ill admit it discourage me a little bit but i think with a little preventative maintenance i can avoid if not all but most of those problems, i've pretty much already went through the break in process, i helped a buddy breakin his Rs4 (the one with the Nitro Star T3.0)so im confident in that but is there any others suggestions before i go tearing into it?

ive heard problems with:
the ST servo
brakes
engine mounts and the pullstart

P.S. are the tires pre-glued and what set of crystals come with it frequincy wise?

Thanks guys, I will be buying the new servo as soon as I have the extr*****. I've yet to try a grass run with my clutch tightened but probably tonight. Maybe tightening the clutch would allow you to pop wheelies easier? Do one of you r/c wizards know if the clutch tightness will affect your ability to pop wheelies?

garzzar:I have never had problems with the engine mounts...[:-]Who did???The rest of the problems are all newbie problems.Tighten the servo saver nut and locktite it even before your first run.
Brakes?Only a matter of knowing how to tighten them up with no brake drag.(Fresh charge in the batteries will help.)
Pull start??If you go wild on it,it might give trouble....
PS answer:Yes the tires are pre-glued.There is a sticker on the reciever box lid with the frequency number on it.

brainerj:Tightening the SPUR GEAR might help a bit,but you want it to slip a little when you are jumping with it.
Stiffer springs on the clutch shoes will also allow more wheelies,since the clutch will not engage until the rpms reach a certain point.

Pauole:Tuning is a big part on how much power and speed you will get out of the engine.Always keep a good smoke trail coming out of the exhaust...

thnx nate that all sounds legit ive read all about how to fix those problems and you bet the very first thing i do is double check everything before i even think about opening the gal. of fuel i have waiting in my room lol
if any body happens to have a pic of the servo saver nut (even if it might be firly obvious which one it is) could you post it, as i haven't seen one yet so id like to make sure im tightening the right thing

Hey Nate,

I bought a hump pack and a Dynamite fail-safe for my FS. Do you recommend a fail safe for the FS? Any Idea where I can get a throttle return spring? The Fail-safe was $25 and I wrote on another thread about it and I was told that I should not need it as long as my batteries are charged. What do you think?

i run a fail safe on my its a dynamax payed 26 dollors for it so far it works great

ok i got my FS in but havent had time to do anything with it be cause im in class right now, everything looks awesome, the only thing that worries me is the front shocks, they seem to soft and was wanting to know which combination of springs and shock oil is best

tomcatguy74:I highly recommend a failsafe.They do not allow run-aways due to running out of range,transmitter problems,or weak transmitter batteries.A throttle return spring will acount for reciever problems.Ask windowlicker where he got his return spring.I only use a failsafe.
