Default RC10GT2 or hot bodies lighting gt10?

hey i am about to get my first RC truck and i am not sure about what to get. i want duribility, reliability, and speed.
i think my friend is getting the firestorm, and i want something to compete or beat it, maybe the HPI rush but i heard those break easily
i have a high $200 budget so please let me know which u would recommend for a beginner.

thanks!

edit: i have narrowed it down to these two with your help and i think the rc10gt2 is more respected and well know but it also looks like the HB lightning would be nice too and would save me at least $80.

NEW-TO-RC i would get a XTM X-Cellerator its faster (50 +mph) then the firestorm and its cheaper and just as capable of a racer. You can find them brand new for $200.

But is it as durable, as easy to work on then the firestorm. Stuff a Newb needs to look at, not just speed.

If your budget is 200 dollars than a nitro RC car is not for you.

Hot Bodies http://www.ultimatehobbies.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=HBS66501!1007&csurl=%2Fistar%2Easp%3Fa%3D28%26 200.00 wont go far with nitro there to fast for a first time driver IMHO lots of parts will brake learning how to run it i would look at a eletric rustler or stampede there pretty fast and damn near bullet proof less maintenace to but if ya got to have nitro,go with it it your cash do what ya gotta do

Wow Nitro_Stan,
Same advice I was gonna give lol. I recently bought 2 Stampede's from Tower so I'd have something to run in the back yard with my daughter. Great little trucks for the money! Also just ordered a Hot Bodies Lightning GT10 from UltimateHobbies to mess around with at the tracks....couldn't pass it up for under $200 shipped!

If you want to race then stay away from the firestrom. Did you take a look at the Team Losi XXX-NT2 RTR yet, they are very similar to the GT2, infact if you take the chassis from the GT2 and the chassis form the XXX-NT and put them up together they are very similar. I think when Team Associated was designing the GT2 they had the XXX-NT sittin in front of them while designing it. They just look to familiar not to have been, but the XXX-NT2 comes with a much better computerized radio, and a rear exhaust engine. The GT2 doesnt have a better suspension settup like rclynx said, infact most ST guys will agree that the xxx-nt has more adjustability setup wise then the GT2 does.

But $200 is a little low, remember that you will need fuel, a glow plug warmer, tools, batteries and spare parts(for when you break someting) so I would prolly save a little more up before I would get one. And get some good quality fuel only name brand no off brand names, remember you get what you pay for. So if you buy some $15 a gallon fuel then you will $15 fuel which isnt good.

As far as electrics go (for valve) they are not any cheaper then these nitro's are. Infact electrics are preety expensive for the first buy, figue you get an electric, then you need to get at least one good battery $30 + batteries for 1 battery most will buy more then 1 battery. A good charger to charger the battery, then you need tools and when it gets down to it, a com lathe and other assorted things. Comes out to be pretty expensive, I bought an electric thinking it would be cheaper to tun then my nitro, well I got a rude awakening. There just as expensive as the nitro's are, and if you want to go as fast as your nitro counterparts like if you want to get a xxx-t to go as fast as a xxx-nt then it's even more money involved. And thats not even talking brushless and lipo's and such.

hey new to rc I would go with this one that was suggested it is 4wd

my buddy just picked one up and it looks like a great buy. Racing is more about control than speed on the dirt at least. I have a firestorm and I love it it is durable and alot of fun but I think this is a better truck if you want to run on an off road course the firestorm doesnt turn well on the road but this one does. the rc10 is a well respected truck but I think you will enjoy the lightning more. I started with a firestorm and I am currently moving up to a turmoil buggy I was going to keep the firestorm for bashing but I think I am going to go for a lightning and give the firestorm to my son.

i bought a gt2 recently and can't complain. it wins races. all the components are nicely laid out. it started on the second pull. when my friend was trying to jump the curb at full speed he hit it wrong and did like 5 to 6 cartwheels. still in one piece so i'm pretty sure that its durable. after you get it go to the rc10gt2 forum for other helpful tips.
