I am not trying to get into a traxxas is crap debate, I put a few gallons through mine and the spur was mint. My experience with friends of mine that have had traxxas vehicles for long periods of time and even raced (slashes) regularly with theirs with no durability issues. RC Cars break, they all do.
I've never blown a spur on any vehicle, traxxas or not, in ten years. If they are shredding your motor isn't mounted right or tight or you have thrown a clutch bearing. If its melting you have a bad clutch bearing or the slipper is too loose. If its meshed right, it will hold up. The only other issue may be stones and rocks getting in.

I'm not going to debate either, some people never have issues, others always do. Either way, Steel gearing will always be better than plastic in my book. Won't buy another RC car if it has delrin or plastic gearing. I have adjusted the slipper three ways to sunday on my car and my sons Jato and it doesn't matter, first gear was stripping out over a short period of time inside the transmission. Slipper could be the only thing affecting this and I tried all different ways. Metal saved my soul and any more hair loss. Here is a picture of her from yesterday, With a custom hand painted body from Zeike and so many upgrades, most recent being the 17mm hub conversion.

These are machines, unless there is a manufacturing flaw that makes some of these machines different and break easily, the half that aren't having problems are doing it right. If the gears are meshed correctly and they don't move and the bearings are good (and don't wear often), there should be no issues with the spur. The internal gear problem being persistent, maybe its a manufacturing flaw that has things misaligned? I don't think that is a known flaw on these cars. If steel worked, then cool.

You should be able to drive the hell out of your Jato all day and night for months and years with the stock plastic spur gear regardless of how powerful the engine is. If you are burning them up or breaking them then there is another unidentified problem. This is true for any RC.
Anyone know if there's anybody besides New Era that makes a big block engine mount for a Jato? I have a Ron Paris Novarossi .21 that I can't sell that I might stuff in my jato. Need an engine mount though.

I agree. The only thing that I've had trouble with in regard to spur gear longevity is getting little grains of sand that gets packed between the teeth of the spur gear. If they get picked out early enough, they don't beat up the clutchbell too badly.

No IPS shaft needed. That's why they make larger diameter flywheels and bump boxes.

I've never had a problem with plastic spur gears. Actually, I tried a steel RRP spur on a Rustler. Even with he most perfect gear mesh, it ate the clutchbell for lunch. I should have hardened and annealed the CB before installing the steel spur, but the CB package said it was hardened. Guess they were wrong. At any rate, I don't agree with steel spur gears, but that isn't to say there isn't a place for them. Buggies use them, some of most as standard equipment I guess.

I am not talking about a spur gear being eaten, I am talking about numerous times internal gears ,not the clutch bell, not the spur, being chewed up inside. So that is why I switched to solid steel. If you have great luck with the crap plastic ones then more power to you. Has not been my experience with 2 different Jatos and I don't think at this point its user error, maybe you just drive yours like a ***** or you run it for speed on straight runs on the pavement, who knows. I bash, not pansy around. btw, if you don't like my post, don't read it. and its clean because I keep it clean, not lazy.
I appreciate your classy remarks. Total class.

Hi,
I have a Jato 3.3 with the older TQ 2222. My steering is too sensitive. Is there anything I can do to rectify this?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Mat

I hate to say this but on most of my cars I've had a problem with them being too sensitive at center and I'm all over the place. My solution was to get the $29 Spektrum receivers and put my cars on a DX6-I and add a good bit of expo. they are much easier to drive. I was able to use the rx and tx I pulled in some boats applications with good results so the cost worked out. Re: the discussion about gears and materials, we have 3 JATOs, a 2.5 and a pair of 3.3s. the 2.5 has been bullet proof from that angle. We have never replaced a gear in several years of just running in a big back yard. There has been some crash damage to suspension and so on but no tranny problems, it just hauls butt! The 3.3's haven't been run as much but still no drive train issues. I'm pleased with Traxxas products generally and though we don't run cars as much as we used to we keep them ready to go for when the mood strikes.

Added a RdLogics dual tip pipe. Only thing with this pipe is you have to keep the idle higher to keep it running. needs more pressure to idle because of exhaust its moving and back pressure. Therefore it must be slightly richer also.

That's a power waster right there... Looks cool, yeah.. But the engine probably runs lean on the top end because of a lack of tank pressure and the pressure waves aren't going to reverberate back to the exhaust port properly causing a power loss.. The equivalent of a Pitts muffler for an airplane.

I am using a Hitech Lynx 4s transmitter with the Proton 4 receiver, it has built in GPS and I have installed the temp sensor also. I am getting accurate temp and speed readings on every run.
