Silicone after run oil?
Ive just bought a bottle of 'Ultimate' after run oil which is 100% pure silicone but I remember hearing that its best not to use silicone oils.
Is this true or shouldn't I worry?

You want a after run oil that has a moisture blocker in it. Hobbico is all I have ever used, not saying it's the best, but I have never had a problem. As far as NOT using silicone, I know silicone turns sticky, and glue like when it gets hot, so I wouldn't use it.

RE: Silicone after run oil?
i think its all a cash grab. ive never run after run oil and never had an issue. i always inspect my motor and every time i pull it apart all the internals have a healthy coat of oil which stops rust. I do run the engine out of fuel to ensure there is no left over fuel in the engine. I better put up my flame shield [:-]

Yeah running the fuel out is the most important thing, as nitro fuel is hygroscopic (not hydro) which means it attractes moisture. ARO can't hurt but yeah a lot of people do fine without it. You could also use automatic transmission fluid from the auto parts store - the Hobbico oil smells just like it too interestingly! A quart of auto trans fluid from NAPA or wherever is much cheaper price than the hobby brands (which are just relabelled oils anyway)

Air tool oil is also a good ARO. Marvel makes one, but there are other brands to choose from. This may be better than regular MMO because it may better prevent rust. But regular MMO isn't bad.

RE: Silicone after run oil?
I use marvel mystery oil when I do use any...Usually only if I know I'm gonna store it for a while.(like waiting for busted parts to come in)
I usually try to at least run it dry, but I have been known to leave fuel in the system for a couple of weeks[:'(].
So far I haven't had any catastrophic failures that I could attribute to not using after run oil....
