I got a cvrx (s) and to make it fit you have to put a different shaft in the engine. I put my old G3.0 shaft in and it seems to work but it is a lot of careful work to put it in.

I'd put an Associated RPM tuned pipe on the truck with the .18 CV-R.

Just advice, take it or leave it

Why did you use the G3.0 shaft? Did you try to install a PILOT SHAFT on the OS short shaft?

what does pilot even denote? I am all ready to order one I just need to figure out what would be the best route, the short shaft with pilot shaft or cut the long shaft on the other one combined with a pilot.... either way I will have to drill new holes for motor mounts?? unless yakfish coughs up the pics of how to modify the oem mounts

here is a pic of the motor mounts. I epoxied 2 bushings on the 2 front holes to raise up the front of the motor so the cb didn't rub on the chassis. I ended up not liking this set up and I bought a set of associated mounts that worked better but I did have to drill new holes in the chassis.

Ah i see now! thanks for the picture! so it just needs to be raised? I am going to just order the motor with the associated mounts.... but i am still wandering if the pilot would slip onto the short shaft without cutting anything.....hmmm..... doesn't the short shaft come with everything the long shaft does?

you are going to need this pilot shaft to go with it. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXM720&P=7 you will only need to raise the motor if you use the oem mounts. you will notice that I also notched the side of the mounts closest to the pull starter. if you get the associated mount you won't need to raise it any. you will need to get the right mounting screws that will fit the mounts. I think the associated mount are the easiest way to go.

I would see how the enigiine sits and how the cb lines up with the spur before you cut anything. I didn't cut the shaft when I first started running it I put a couple bushing behind the spur gear to make it line up with the ckutch bell. here is a pic of how it worked. I think its bettere if you don't have to cut anything. especially a brand new motor! here are the pics they are a bit blurry but you will get the idea.

Hey yakfish,I just got my CV-RX today and I could use a little help.
Did you have to remove the gearbox brace? What screws do I need to install the engine mounts? And what button head screws did you use to hold the engine in place(using the asociated engine mounts)?

Nate here are the screws i used for the associated mounts. these ones are for the the mount to the chassis http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVC43 and these ones are for the motor to the mount http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2926

You shouldn't need to remove the brace if you are using the hpi stock clutchbell or even if you are using the 21t you should still be fine. I removed mine because I was using a different clutch bell that was a bit bigger in diameter. You can get away with removing it and the car will still work with out it but I wouldn't suggest it because it allow the chassis to flex a bit which will change your gear mesh a bit. which I think is why I was cooking so many spurgears. good luck with the cvr its a awesome motor! I'm still waiting for the MT2 to get here so I can put the cvr in it. it should be here tomarrow!!

I also noticed the glow plug that comes with the CV-RX is a little shorter than the McCoy glow plug that I have for spare.Could I still use McCoy??

Don't be afraid to cut the shaft, steel don't feel.

NO, nate. Use OS plugs in OS engines.

I don't think the brand of plug make much difference. Mine had a medium plug when I got it and it burned out really quick so I swicthed to a cold plug and I haven't had to change it since and Ive' put close to a gallon through the motor. the plug I'm using is a Mccoy mc-9

it's not the brand, it's the length. Long plugs that almost all engines that AREN'T OS engines use are NOT compatible with short-plug OS engines, and you're creating extra cylinder pressure and decreasing the size of your combustion chamber.

YOU MUST USE SHORT PLUGS IN OS ENGINES.

Which shaft did you get? if you got the shoprt threaded shaft you will need the pilot shaft thst I linked to in an earlier post.just slide the colet ring then the flywhell onto the shaft then scew on the pilot shaft. you can then attach your clutch and clutch bell.

if you got the engine with this shaft( I know its a Tz and not a cvr but I couldn't find the cvr with the same shaft) http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHLV6&P=SM then everything should fit the same as it came off the G3.0. this isn't the shaft that I got so I don't KNOW FOR SURE.
