In toughness I'd rate like this:
1.Firestorm
2.GT2
3.XXX-NT
These three are about the only bash worthy 2wd STs.These trucks speeds are:Firestorm,40mph.GT2,35mph.And the xxx-nt is somwhere around 35-40(correct me if I'm wrong).

Correction...The XXX-NT goes about 45MPH as seen [link=http://www.traxxas.com/products/nitro/jato/images/jato_accel_graph.gif]HERE[/link] and it probably goes faster but Traxxas wanted to make a statement with their vehicles #1 and 2. Here is my list
1.Firestorm
2.XXX-NT
3.GT2

i'm not gonna lie it does have the best durability as the rc10gt has race ability and rustler and jato have fly by speed and a heavily modified rustler has a lil racing capability.LOL

how does the jato compare to the firestorm?

How fast would a stock firestorm be compared to a MM5700 8 cell pede?

anyone know if there are plans for firestorm upgrades? I haven't seen any.

Here is a Firestorm upgrade site. www.neweramodels.com .
Comparing a Jato to a Firestorm is like comparing a tooth-pick car with a fast engine to a tank with a turbo.

i didnt understand your analogy....

the jato, with mods, is probably the toughest, and very few at that...mine takes major beatings

the storm on the other hand, is the toughest truck straight out of the box, it all depends on how much coinage you are willing to drop

When I said its a tank with a turbo I meant its a powerful(turbo) unbreakable(tank) truck.
It is a great truck!Took mine 10ft. up and landed upside down only to flip it over and wheelie off!

Kind of biased of course but I would not hesitate to get a another Jato. After almost a gallon I have only bent one turnbuckle and a 2.2 dish rim cracked. I have had R.P.M arms waiting patiently to go on when (if?) the stockers ever break. When choosing your car take into consideration your driving ability and the speed and acceleration of the car. Slower cars may give a false sense of durability. Of course a slower car will seem more durable. Its like saying my Tamiya Wrangle is durable. Its flipped rolled jumped and never broke. Granted its about as fast as my self propelled lawnmower and never has ripped a second gear wheelie at about 50 and tumbled for about 50 yards. People see so many broken Jato's and assume they are weak. Not true. They may not be the most durable, but they are significantly faster in all aspects. They are overpowered, have insane acceleration, and can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Thanks for the help so far, you guys are making this decision hard! lol

Can anyone compare the speed of a MM5700 pede/rustler on 8 cells NiMH to one of these trucks?

I plan on slowly upgrading either truck after I get it, so stock isn't for long, but upgrades will be spaced out.

So what makes the jato 140$ more? Is it worth it? Isnt that about the price of a better engine for the firestorm? Which would be the better platform in the long run?

Alot of people are going to not like this but here goes: I had the same experience with my savage, great with a stock motor, hard to break, then upgraded the motor to something fast enough to keep me from going board, and it was a money pit. I even got it cause people said it was tough. Well tough in stock form, but was not ready for the damage the motor I put in it could produce.

The whole electric vs. nitro is going to open a whole can of worms. Make a check list. Weigh the pros and cons and get what you think will suit you best. I don't really listen to any particular one piece of advice from any one place. As I stated above I am biased toward a Jato. I shopped. Wanted fast, and wanted aftermarket and LHS support. Got mine for $300 shipped with a free stick pack and a free Nitro Rustler both NIB. Yea seriously... When I shop for something I'm interested in I research the pros and cons of what people say and compare that with the prices/aftermarket support/LHS part avail/ and specs. Having both the Jato and Rustler I would pay the extra money for the Jato over the Nitro rustler - having no experience withi it I cant help you with the electric. The Jato is a much better truck IMO. Good look. Take your time and enjoy the process!

I wouldn't unless you are familar with the seller, I personally would never buy used. Spend the extra $100 get a stock NIB from Tower and know where its been and decide where you want it to go. I think the only upgrade listed there that I would buy is the batt pack, and maybe turnbuckles. Be wary of used rc equipment.

I agree with Jatoguy, do your searching and figure out what appeals to you. Too many biased opinnions out there. Problem is you will not know what your missing out on unless you do enough research and get the facts. Its hard to find the facts on certain forums. Alot of get this or get that but no real info on what makes it good for you!

Its a craigslist purchase so I am going to pick it up in person and demo the truck, so as far as that is concerned I am fine. Is there any thing in particular I should be looking for, engine ware? I have limited nitro experiance with warhead, but since its a POS I dont really use the warhead.

The charger is pretty sweet too, so it helps out my brushless pede, gonna get some lipo batts

So if its legit, tomorrow I will have a jato.

What are the most common breaks and upgrade needed parts on a jato?

A heavily modded Jato would probably equall out to the price of a firestorm cuz their expensive. The jato will give u a higher top speed.
