Takes time to learn by experiementation how to get a good tune. Reading up on tuning is not a bad idea too. You kind of have to grow a ear, eye, and hand for it all to be a "good tunner". If you put water on the cooling head and time it how long it takes to sizzle you can get a idea of how hot its running, but a temp gauge is much more accurate.

The outside temp and pressure has alot to do with performance. After it rains it usually cools down that could be a reason for more power. You can calibrate that Dura trax temp gauge if you want or at least try to. Boil a pot of water and adjust the reading to get your boiling point on the gauge.

If your engine hits more then 230, your in trouble. 210, 220 tops. I have 5 different temp guns and they all very accurate. These nitro engines should not run any hotter then the engine in your car you use to drive to work, school, parties!!
1 guy said his engine runs at 500 degrees, I think he was from Pluto!

i dont agree with the "hot more than 230 and your in trouble" thing. i wouldnt go above 260, maybe 270 or 280 if it is a traxxas motor

Get a Tempgun.com PE1. It's cheap and works good.

I drive mine hard to, but it only runs at 210 degrees and is anything but a slouch. I have a Trinity .12 Draked, 1.5 HP. I buy only the highest quality nitro's the world has to offer.

Dude, 270 and 280 are much too hot. At those temps if your car/truck doesn't catch on fire your engine will start to lose power and certainly won't last long.

Try posting that in some of the other forums and see what reaction you get.

Engine temps depend on many things such as : budget, bashing, engine life, fuel ratio, local, regional, world racing levels.
I believe 220-240 to be a good starting point without a noob ruining their engine that some had to save money for a period of time to acquire.
