Jato tranny question
Since a long time i want to buy a Jato for street bashing. I've a Revo for a while and love it, but i realy like to buy a Jato.
But my main fear is the tranny. I want to know if the tranny in the jato is reliable.
I'll run it with the stock 3.3 but when this engine will died i want to put an OS .18TZ in it, and i want to know if the tranny will handle it.
Thank you!
David

RE: Jato tranny question
If you dont lock the slipper down sure , I only broke my tranny once when I over tightend the slipper and was runninig wide open over rough ground . The 3.3 is plenty fast in this car , a .18TZ would be pretty insane !

RE: Jato tranny question
Yes Mip makes metal gears for the tranny and I think others do aswell but there not cheap.Do some searching you will find something.I sold my jato but had it for a couple years and was on my second tranny.I beat it pretty hard though and a new complete tranny was 25 bucks new on the bay so I'd say the tranny is pretty solid with stock motor. If your wanting that Tz then I would defenetly get the gears first or you wll most likely blow it.

RE: Jato tranny question
its not the tranny u have to worry about its the spur gear...although my jato 3.3 ate up 4 trannys in like 3 months...but then again im really really really really hard on my jato 3.3. so i swithched to a 1 speed and it goes faster and i havent stripped it in 2 months

RE: Jato tranny question
i have ran the 18's and 21's in mine... i prefer to use the ab modded 3.3,
for the tranny gears ..... run away from aluminum ones that are out there...
there is a guy on e bay who puts out the bronze ones every once in a while.. they hold up very well.
i have only smokes 2 trannys outta 3 jato's... run the slipper 3/4 from tight and u will be fine
plus u can buy trannys for 25 bucks.... so it aint a big deal if u even smoke one

So if i buy a Jato and put the single speed conversion with a .18TZ, it'll supppose to be solid and fast, right??

RE: Jato tranny question
a single speed will not make ur jato faster... the single speed is actually geared in between first and second gear....
the only reason it holds up better is do to the fact there is less rotaional mass and the lack of haveing
a second gear bang during the gear shift...
the .21 will be fine with stock gears... on the other forum... there is a thread with the entire build and several building advices and actual radar results
posting all the ways he built it up to be a gr8 runner....
