Default Come back of a JATO

So after getting my JATO run over by a car I managed to score a JATO off of Craigs List for 200.00 bucks. Then I went and bought the Silver Aluminum chassis from my LHS and I have started to rebuild the JATO. I'm using the best parts off of both trucks to make one. The first set of pics is the JATO that I got for 200.00. Tell me what you think. Was it a god deal?. The second set of pics will be of the rebuild whicj is not done yet. Eventhough the new one ran good I,m going to go all out get a new motor and try and make this thing as fast as possible. I will keep ypu guys updated.

I plan on keeping as many spare parts as possible off of the old one. The chassis is completely trashed and not worth keeping. I plan on throwing in the OS .21 TM. Its a complete drop in except I'm gonna have to find a heeader the will fit the JATO.

241 Racing the chassis looks nice man. I"m relly leaning towards the OS .21TM. Its a direct drop in has 1.8 hp and fitts the EASY START which I would like to keep. Im gonna start thinking of a paint sceme. Really wanted to do RedBull but cant find any stickers. I just might paint the whole thing on but Im no pro.

Yeah Craigs List is awesome. I think you find better deals on there than on ebay. Anyways I finished up with putting everything together. I will post pics on Tuesday. Its when I have time to actually get on my computer instead of being on a phone.

Ok. I'm done but I'm not done. If you know what I mean. I started the engine with a quarter tank and just let it idle untill it ran out of fuel. I really don't want to run it with the 3.3 it has now. The old 3.3 was smashed to peices litteraly. Next is the engine am OS .21TM and after that will be aluminum gears for the tranny. The rebuild took me a total of about 5 hours and a few bad looks from the wife for using the dining room table. lol. Also thinking about getting a roll cage. Not sure yet. Also need the brake disc and want to get some new fuel tubing. If there is anything else you guys think I can do I'm open to suggestions. I'm trying to make this thing as bad @$$ as possible.[>:] Enjoy the pics.

Default RE: Come back of a JATO

that thing is starting to look great, i like the dynamite head on your motor. you could put [link=http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi?session_id=∂_id=3244]17mm hexes[/link] on there, and run buggy wheels to tame a little of the torque, and the larger diameter would give you a little more top speed. run any of [link=http://www.ofna.com/tires-onroad.html]these[/link] on the jato with 17mm hexes, an you sure will get alot of traction. The .21 tm is an awesome drop in for any small block application, and it should let you pull some high gears but keep your acceleration, and gain some good top end. maybe try a wing mount like [link=http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi?session_id=∂_id=3117]this[/link] to help keep the it on the ground, and look at this [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6088806/anchors_6088806/mpage_1/key_fastest%252Cjato%252Crcu/anchor/tm.htm#6088806]thread[/link] to get some good idea's for a speed jato, notice the battery moved to the center of the chassis. you said you needed a new brake disc right, try [link=http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi?session_id=&part_id=9530]this[/link] one, looks like it would be pretty good. thats all i got t' say bout' that.

Wow jikkuria you are a world of information. If you notice the very fist pic at the start of the thread there is a 5 cell battery pack that I do plan on using. It came with the Jato I bought. Also waant to try and reduce the wheelies. Not get rid of them all together but reduce it a bit. Thanks again for all the info. Good looking out man.

Well I just finished installing the new motor. It was a direct drop in. The HPI header fit perfectly and gives good clearance for the EASY STAR to fit. The only issue I had was when I was installing the header retaining spring I was using the one that came with the header and it did not fit between the block and the carb. Had to use the spring that came with the motor. I will post pics tomorrow....

Well here we go. I did the motor swap while I was at work. I took some side by side picks of the TRX 3.3 with the Dynamite head and the OS .21TM. As you can se in the pics the header was an awesome fit. I actually got the idea from the forum on the TRAXXAS web site. I thought the throttle arm on the carb was going to hit the electric starter for the EASY START but a small reposition of the carb took care of that. I'm itching to start the break in process but I don't have a body yet. Well enjoy the pics.

Well now I'm done for good. There are still other mods like the Buku pipe and a few MIP pieces that I want to put in. But I started breaking the motor in today and good god is it way different from thr 3.3. On tank 6 I started leaning the motor out and you could tell right away that the OS .21TM has alot more juice than the TRX 3.3. I have not leaned it out completely yet. I'm saving that for tank 7. Enjoy the completed pics.
