RE: jato vs firestorm
I've owned a firestorm but not the jato. The firestorm is a fantastic truck IMO. Very durable. I'd say if you want crazy speed, go for the jato. If you're not a speed demon, go for the firestorm. It still goes fast, probably 35-40, but the jato is built for speed

Agree I own a Jato 3.3 and love it. Its great on the street and OK off road. The truck is very durable as well. If speed is what your looking for then the Jato is the way to go. If a good handling all purpose truck is what you want then the Firestorm will be your best bet. Hope this helps and doesn't cause more confusion.

Agreed, the jato is way faster. I believe the Jato may handel better. I have the Firestorm and it is not a stable platform with the 3.0 engine. I put a Hobao Hyper .12 and the truggy performs rock solid. With the 3.0 the machine was way squirrelly on the track. With the .12 the truggy is still fast (35 MPH) and it has amazing control as well it has better mileage.

RE: jato vs firestorm
Jato is nothing but a straight line vehicle. Firestorm is everything in between.
The only reason I'd go with a Traxxas, is if I wanted to see how many pieces I could shatter each time I hit a mailbox since they are only good for runnin down the streets. These days, the only reason people buy one is because of the "MPH" stickers on the box.

The Jato cost more but is a much more of an advanced truck. Do you realize they make off-road tires for it? As far as toughness and shattering into pieces I love this argument when comparing these 2 trucks when one truck goes 35mph and the other goes 60mph+.... people seem to loose common sense when talking about damage. Do I need to explain this any further for you? Your not comparing apples to apples with this argument!
But the Firestorm is an excellent truck for the price!

Both trucks are durable. Both HPI and Traxxas have A+ customer service and both have decent parts support and after market support.

I own a hpi savage x, revo 3.3, two jato's, and a revo brushless edition. The jato is a different animal than the monster trucks, I find myself running my jato's in some bashing area's and my monsters in others. My real enjoyment of the jato is the greater skill required to control the 2wd truck with a lot of power. For some, too much power is a problem, for me too much power is almost enough. I tend to grow board of the slower, easier to drive 4wd trucks.

RE: jato vs firestorm
I have a good friend that owns a Jato. We rebuilt it after a bad crash that destroyed the 2.5 engine. Now that he has a 3.3 we'v been bashing alot together and heres my take...(I drive a Firestorm) He has wayyy more topend speed then me, my storm seems to jump better and have better balance in the air, He breaks alot and i seem to usually come out unscathed.
Our last outing to the BMX track went something like this..Hes warming up in the parking lot as i mess around on the big jumps...Kids asks "how fast does it go mister?" buddy says "bbb bb bout 60" i love his stutter lol kid says " no way lets seee it" oh great the challenge.. so he lights it up in the loose asphalt and after he shifted to second all I saw was a cartwheelin JATO!! Busted rim and busted transmission case. I proceeded to tear up the track with huge jumps and only a broken RPM bumper at the end. Their both great trucks, But Id buy a Firestorm with my money. My 2c

He just cartwheeled it on the asphalt. I warned him about metal parts but he wanted the aluminum shock tower, so it looks to me like the energy was transfered to the next weakest part.

What's the first thing traxxas wants EVERYONE to know about the truck???
Brutally Fast.

More advanced how? in technology? in required driver skill? I can tell you one thing, it definitely isn't in technology. How many of em have you seen that are actually ROAR legal and eligible to race? Not many, because it costs quite a bit to make it race legal. Traxxas advertises it as ''READY TO RACE''... not quite... That means bye bye 2 speed, 2.8 sized wheels/tires, 3.3 engine. and not once did I say I would run both to see how many pieces I'd break them into. Im saying the only fun there is driving in a straight line is how many pieces I can shatter it into. But to quote exactly what I said...
I even let you know that at the beginning of my original post... see below

My only two points and it is my opinion is that its hard to say the firestorm is more durable when it is so much slower I dont care what the overall opinions are in the forums. Second the jato is much more then a straightline vehicle! I just want people that are choosing a truck and spending money to be informed. Like I said before the firestorm is an excellent truck.

RE: jato vs firestorm
I agree with Doker44. The Jato is alot more than just going fast in a straight line. With the a few twek.aks here and there it is a very capable off road truck as well. Again both trucks are good though. If you want to race I would suggest an Associated GT2.

RE: jato vs firestorm
thanx for all ur feed back guys!!! im not at all interested in racing,i have a bb tmaxx for that!! ill be mainly using it for the streets and maybe some light off road bashing but im still not sure which one im gonna go with tho........i like the looks and price of the firestorm, but not being able to do wheelies on command is a bummer....jato is alot more expensive but will wheelie on command, but i cant stand the 3.3 engine(junk) traxxas should be ashamed of them selves for even selling it.........so either way i go i will have to change the engine rite off the hop.....firestorm engine to make wheelie power and jato engine because well they just suck........how much modding is necessary to put an os 18 in a firestorm?

RE: jato vs firestorm
i say the jato. i have one and i work at a rc track and i see alot of both of them. i love racing mine off road. i put a 16 T revo clutch bell and a 40 t spur gear and got rid of most of the crazy low end and threw on some imex H square tires and it can hang with most of the 1/8 scale buggys.

RE: jato vs firestorm
unfortunately the Firestorm has a engine that has a pilot shaft and a rotary carb... finding that direct relation in a different engine is going to be a task.
I'd suggest an RC10GT2 regardless. Build one, stuff an OS in it of your choice and eat up jatos offroad.

RE: jato vs firestorm
i got a firestorm about 2 years ago and have done no majour modifications (basically stock), but it still wheelies on command and bashes brutally off-road its a great truck but some of the parts can be pricey, but that is only if you like to crash into things.
overall in your case if you are gonna be using it mainly on the street buy the jato, but if you want a bit of cheaper fun then buy the firestorm, it has served me well.

RE: jato vs firestorm
i don't know alot about the firestorm but the jato on the other hand is fast and takes driving exp to handle as my buddy found out 800$ later. i tried to guide him to the HPI nitro MT2 for the all wheel drive and 45mph, but there again that brutally fast 65mph tag on the jato got him. high speed and low exp= empty pockets. as far as an .18 engine, i beleive if you have an eye for detail you can do anything, besides .18 is still small block and with some linkage changes it shouldn't be too hard to drop it in.

RE: jato vs firestorm
i own a hpi firestorm and its a great truck, with the right amount of tuning you can get wheelies on command, i just found that setupd today, it is a real fun truck, the only thing i dont like is that is it has to much push in a turn, but what would you expect from a 2 wheel drive truck. all in all it is a great truck for a great price

RE: jato vs firestorm
As a newbie to the sport I have ran 10 tanks total through my NMT2 with the 3.0 engine and find I very very fast having nothing to compare it to mind you.
Down a gravel road I have gotten it close to its full speed and find it hard to want to go any faster due it skating around probably a bad surface to run on. I imagine the Fire storm 10T is faster than than MT2.
No beginner should own or needs something faster than 45 mph not needed. so at a great price/durability what more does a newbie need ? put aside the want for a minute cuz that is a preference. I passed the controller without worrying to my girlfriend and my brother without worrying knowing its a tough truck and they each crashed it a few times. A steering ball cap popped off when my bro clipped a tree and
I popped it back on, He also ran head on into the tree and bounced back. He also ran into his own feet haha..
If you want other people to enjoy your toy and not worry too much I say the fire storm. If your new to RC like me FS10T.
I think something that goes any faster in the wrong hands will be prone to self destruct. There is a lot of fun to be had all the way up to 45 mph and those last 20 mph u get from a jato probably only last a few seconds in a drive by but when U hit something at that speed someone or something is gonna be hurting lol..
