OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!

Ok, I started this thread because every single thread i have read so far only is hype and how can one convert it to brushless.[:'(]

-So I hope that here will be only posts that are NITRO SLAYER based, no B/L conversion or other not related stuff please.

-No B/L vs. nitro fights, please

-I am not trying to be the big boss here, I only wish that this will stay informative and clear.

Thank you!

-Stealthbomber

Will that body fit the nitro version? Because it's currently on an electric..

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

There is only slight differences on the sizes slash/slayer, so it should fit perfectly .

I really like the look of this truck. I'm sure it will be very fun to drive. I've watched several utube videos of it and the only issue I see is the tremendous amount of sway when cornering. I'm sure that could be fixed with some stiffer springs and/or sway bars. I hope to own one eventually. Traxxas gets an A+ in my book for this truck

I like it very much, and i have not even driven it yet!

Softer springs will actually help more.

Congrats on the new ride! It's sweet!

Now I need a Slayer body and some 1/8 buggy wheels for my Savage[&:]

I Like the look without the stickers. I will be picking mine up on Friday and I think I will be doing that same thing to it.

How's the power? One store owner told me he'd be surprised if it ONLY went the advertised 50MPH but other posts say it needs a gear conversion to get to the 50+ range and will only do 45+ out of the box?

I also heard this can take a big block conversion up to a .28... Anyone tried this yet ???

Can't wait to get mine :) ...

FastVee 09-18-2008 11:12 AM

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

I think that new gears are needed to reach 50mp/h.

-it is not slow out of the box" -i belive that traxxas says the speed is 45,but with 17t cb it will hit 50+mp/h.

I wish that the first gear would be longer and 2nd way longer geared. -this thing revvs fast!

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

Well after 1.5 days of Slayer operation I have to say .... Its fast and furious... Kicks total butt in the dirt and, with a bit of tweaking to the suspension, can manage to NOT roll EVERY time you take a corner or break hard on the pavement. Lets just say that this truck was meant to get dirty. It took a little while to really tune it up nicely after the break in, and during the break in it stalled alot. It also required quite a bit of playing with the transmisson to get it to shift where I wanted too but once all that was done.... wooohoooo ... Its a real fun truck to drive.

Here are a few pictures of what you might think is my 3 year old Slayer, but really it's just 2 days old (fun fun fun).... Like I said it is NOT meant o run on the pavement :) ....

I Totally agree that it is not really meant to run on pavement and let us not forget
that is was modeled after the CORR trucks which run on dirt only.[8D]

Ok, I just painted the Slash hardcore body and I´m installing it now, soon I´ll see will it fit...
(there was no slayer bodies out yet when I ordered this )

I also installed some Jato alloy turnbuckles.

So all that was needed was the pede body post on the rear.

I think, im going to get a slayer body and slap it on my revo. That just looks like a revo with smaller a-arms and smaller tires and wheels. Hmm the revo could be considered a longtravle trophytruck.

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

Had my Slayer for a couple of months now and it has been great, only a few breaks nothing real major. Does anyone know what other wheels and tires would fit the Slayer? I know there are some hub adaptors I could use but Im wondering if there are direct fit wheels out there. Also what suspension set up does everyone use? I was tired of it bottoming out real easy then barely lifting back off the ground so I put the strongest revo springs (purple dot) in the back and put 90wt oil in all four. That has helped out a bunch. Even with the factory setup the back would bottom out when I took off from a stand still. Then when I would go to stop the front would hit and if there was a rock in front of it sometimes it would catch the skidplate just right and flip it over. Not sure if this is a regular problem with these trucks but my steering servo stripped out today, a few internal gear exchanges and it was as good as new. That wasnt too bad considering how much abuse these trucks can take.

I havent seen these race, just play. My 1st thought was as usuall engine is WAY more than can be used and caused much lose of control. 1st thing I would do is get a different engine and sell the 3.3, the 3.3 is really a .21 and only good for bashin.

I just got my new body painted for my Slayer. Its the slash hardcore body. i mounted it befor i saw how stealth bomber did it( wish i would have dont it that way. Other that that I have a revo center diff and rear brake kit,RD Logic diff cups(500k in the center) RRP 34t spur/18t CB, shorter pushrods, x axle carriers, Panter Komodo Dragons on HPI wheels, Revo sway bar(silver-front, Black front-rear), variable valve pistons, Modded motor.

I have had that same rock thing happen to me too. They can get wedged in by were the drive shaft goes into the rear diff. PITA to get out.

I got the body from my LHS. its a Proline Hardcore body for a slash. They make one for a slayer now. Ebay has the best prices probably. I painted it myself with faskcolor paints.

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

Does anyone have the same problem I have with jumping the Slayer? When I jump this thing it seems to be very nose heavy and hits the ground like a battering ram nose first when going over jumps!

Mods I have done:
1. RB TM523 engine and matching pipe
2. Traxxas center diff w/500kwt oil and rear brake addition
3. Front diff oil is stock
4. Rear diff oil is 10k
5. 70wt oil in all shocks
6. stock springs

Not sure if the center diff is causing the problem and I can't remember how it jumped before the center diff went in as I did not drive it much before it was installed. Also, it seems as though the attitude of this truck is next to impossible to adjust after it takes flight from a jump. Are these trucks known for jumping in this manner? If so, anyone want to buy a Slayer?

Any advice or help on this is greatly appreciated!!

kantfunkshin 10-31-2008 06:49 PM

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

I still have this problem. The truck does seem to have a mind of its own when in flight. Try giving a little more throttle in the air to bring the nose up, if you hit the brake it will go nose down or end over end. I had to put thicker oil (90 wt gear oil in all 4's) to help it from bottoming out every single time even from 6 inch drops. Also put the strongest revo springs in the back. Hope this info helps. Have a Happy Halloween!

f0rmula_2001 10-31-2008 09:55 PM

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

I lowered my truck and turn the preload out from tight 4 turns on the front and 3 on the back and jumps really nice. doesnt really bottom out much either. it handles pretty amazing on all surfaces except blacktop. I am running 45wt shock oil and the variable valve dampers drilled out to the stock 1.3mm bump. the rebound is a little faster because of the extra holes.

chappej1 11-01-2008 11:32 AM

RE: OFFICIAL TRAXXAS SLAYER OWNERS THREAD

Thanks for the info! I will try using stiffer springs out back and see if that helps. As far as more throttle...I doubt I could get it to rev any higher without grenading the motor as the TM 523 is quite a monster in this truck.
