Default A few questions; Iwata HP C+

I've always painted body's with pactra racing finish spray cans, but I decided to step it up and purchased an Iwata smart jet air compressor and an Iwata HP C+ airbrush (0.3mm needle). I'm using parma faskolor waterbased paints. Do you usually have to add a mix of water to these paints before sprayng? When I press the trigger in for air within probably 10% of movement, it's already spraying full air pressure; no linearity at all; is this normal? My compressor outputs 43psi (39psi working pressure), or around 0.29mpa. When spraying fine details or shadowing flames, do you guys vary the air pressure, or hold a constant pressure, (near full) and all the fine control comes from pulling the trigger back for paint. I'm just surprised Iwata doesn't use a softer spring for airflow. Also, what's the best product to use to clean your airbrush? Will enamel thinner damage the internal teflon seals? Thank you.
