Carbon Fiber Hood...Paint on?
Hey....I was wondering how i could paint a carbon fiber type of design.
Should I start out silver then put a fishnet over and paint it black?
And if anyone's done it....pics please.

Hi, there are several ways to do it. With fish net...I would go to homedepot and buy some drywall tape that looks like fish net that comes in yellow or white. this has an adhesive on one side. it's about 2 inches wide. the other more popular product is shelf liner from your local walmart. Anyway, put the tape or shelf liner material onto the body first, then spray a silver or charcoal or window tint color. when it's dry remove the material and spray the entire area black. the trick is in not getting any spray under the material. also once you take the material away, DON"T try to put it back on and add more paint. Almost impossible to line it up perfectly.

dont use silver for the first color if you want it to look real, you really need a charcoal or a dark goldish color. I used the drawer liner as its pretty pliable and will contour like your body may need it to. also becareful because some of that stuff has a different pattern, the first one I picked up was a flower desing only really really small!!! wouldve looked really really stupid riding around like that!!! good luck with it and now you make me want to kick myself for not taking pics of mine..... i did it with silver so I couldve shown you how NOT to do it!!! LOL came out ok tho most people thought it was a sticker!! when I told them it was paint they were like "coool" post pics when youre all done

Yes dry wall tape works great. I have had good luck with 2 layers, the second slightly off from the first and I use black as the first coat followed with a medium gray.
Shelf paper sound more like the style lace painting, that started with bikers who used actual lace as a paint mask.
