A friend of mine is going to the Nats for the first time in 2011 and also wants to see the World Championship Semi-Finals and Finals. The dates I had were as follows:

F3A World Championship dates are:

July 25th - 28th - Prelims
July 29th - Rain day
July 30th - Semi-Finals
July 31st - Finals

Pattern Nationals
August 1st - Check-in / Processing
August 2nd -5th - Pattern Nationals

He booked a room based on those dates and then called AMA just to make sure of the AMA Nats dates and was told they run from July 31st through August 7, 2011. Can someone confirm which is correct? I tried checking the NSRCA site but couldn't find any postings on it.

I was told that , as of the moment, there is a break between the Nats and Worlds. Having a Nats finals on a Sunday is a recipe for disaster too. From what I have been told this could still change. I hope it does.

I already got hotel reservations from July 28 to August 4. This is Thursday to Thursday. Probably I should move from Friday July 29 to Saturday August 6. I will wait until we have more definitive dates.

There was a Nats planning meeting a week ago... and guess what? They changed the dates for us... as of today the Nats will start on August 3 (processing) with August 4 being the 1st day if flying and the finals will be on the August 7. I'm waiting to hear when the WC's will finish since they (AMA) extended the WC's dates until August 2 - I'll know tonight.

Probably very few. I know on the east coast school doesn't start til late August, and that includes colleges.

My friend's inquiry started me thinking that I should book a room which I did. Obviously, I'll be cancelling that and starting over depending on what you find out. I know of a number of guys that plan on watching the last two days of the World's before they compete in the Nats. I'll be assisting Andrew in the World's and plan on competing at the Nats so I'll be there anyway. In either case, if there's much of a delay between the end of the World's and the start of the Nats, the hotel bills could really mount up.

These dates are going to create problems. It is already hard to get people to stay and judge the NATS finals under the current format that we have had. Do you honestly think people will want to be there on a Sunday? Really stupid. I know I won't be there. I'll be on my way home to get to work on Monday. Like I said Dumb SHtuuupid!

I think it makes more sense that WC finals are during the weekend not on Monday and Tuesday.

Derek what is your opinion of the proposeddelay between the World and the start of the Nats?

As a participating pilot, I think you are right, and I don't think is late, there really not much information around, the thing is to get FAI to move the schedule, that will be a problem.

I'm not in favor of the delay at all. The AMA gave the WC's 2 extra days on the tail end which will help, but I'd like to see the Nats start (processing that is) the day after the WC's end, which will hopefully allow us to end the Nats on Saturday instead of Sunday.

I hope to get more information on the timing of the events tomorrow.

Our field is 2.5 hours from Muncie. Should our club be planning to host competitors looking to practice for the worlds or is it too far away?

Or will everyone be practicing at Muncie?

The WC's planning committee have finalized the dates based on the changes that were made by the AMA at the last planning committee meeting. The schedule will be as follows:

7/23 - unofficial practice and model processing
7/24 - official practice and processing
7/25 - official practice, processing and opening ceremony
7/26 - day 1 prelims
7/27 - day 2 prelims
7/28 - day 3 prelims
7/29 - day 4 prelims
7/30 - day off/rain day
7/31 - semi-finals
8/1 - finals, closing ceremony and banquet

I'm also hoping that we can move the Nats up to start on 8/2 now (for processing) with 1st rounds on 8/3. This will allow us to fly the finals on 8/6 (Saturday).

Thanks for the update Derek.

We will adjust our schedules accordingly and look forward to the event. I suspect we will have a large contingent from north of the border with many coming to fly at the Nationals immediately after. From our perspective the scheduling allows maximum participation for us.

Everyone,

We finally heard from the AMA about the Pattern NATS dates for 2011. The Pattern NATS will start on 8/2/2011 and run until 8/6/2011 - processing/pilots meeting/judge training will be on 8/2 with competition flights starting on 8/3 through 8/5 with the finals on 8/6.

As you all know, the World Championships will finish up the day before on 8/1 so Muncie will be the center of the Pattern universe for 2 solid weeks starting on July 23rd with model processing/practice for the F3A teams and culminating on August 6th with the AMA Pattern NATS finals. I've heard from a lot of people that wouldn't normally attend the NATS that they intend to come to the F3A World Championships and then stay and participate in the AMA NATS for Pattern.
