RE: 2011 Houston, TX Spring Pattern Classic 4/30-5/1
Just a clarification.....sprotman is not plying the P11 are they? what will they fly. Can i compete with an overweight pattern plane.... this is a typical problem with the AMA 11 lb rule and the transition to electrics. It takes at least about $3500 to get to 2m pattern plane in electric.... most of us budget flyers who are electric are flying someones older retired GP plane converted....They will rock in at about 13 to 14 pounds with batteries....

Texzen1...the phrase "Any AMA legal plane can participate in Sportsman" implies the RC Aerobatic rule 4.3 regarding weight and size is waived for contestants in Sportsman class (401). However Sportsman class aircraft must comply with AMA's general parameters governing RC aircraft.
Sequences P11 and F11 will be flown by FAI contestants class 406...

Hey Todd, man I missed you guys to much... haha.
I've got priorities straight and actually have time and money now so that I can fly. I went and flew my uncles plane the other day and realized that I haven't lost it. haha.
Thank heavens I still have my Passports and my stuff.
Good to hear from you and hope to see you.

Hi Guys,
I don't know what it's been like out in Katy, but down south here in the Clear Lake NASA area the wind has not stopped blowing since the first of the year.... as I write this the wind is 19 mph steady with gusts to 24. The morning news indicated a windy week, even going so far as to forecast winds the weekend of the contest 15 to 25 mph.
To be sure I have flown at some wind blown contests over the years, but how windy is too windy to have a contest?[]
Mike

Geez, I've just received an email from my club president.... due to high winds and the potential for grass fires, our flying club field is closed for the time being. Between high winds since the first of the year, the repaving our our runway, and now a fire hazard closure, I guess I will just have to trim my 2 meter on the first round flight....

Hi Glen,
I intend to bring out the RV and save the drive time and fuel cost for the weekend... three round trips from Clear Lake @ 58.8 miles each way = 350+ miles worth of driving in a weekend. Whewww! With diesel at $3.95 a gallon, it's cheaper to camp out. I look to be there before lunch Friday.

Glen
I am sorrry to say I will not be able to make it this year.
Hopefully next year. This has been a really hard spring for me & I've not flown at all.
Will really miss it as I thoroughly enjoy your contest.

Spent the afternoon painting box lines and making sure the facility was ready to receive competitors and guests tomorrow. Just a reminder the field will be open for practice all day Friday as early as 9am.
Here are a few pics taken today...
