RE: Pattern by the Bay Contest - Richmond, CA
The contest is fast approaching. I hope all of you Nor Cal pilots can make it, and may be some of you guys from the south too?
Just received a message from the person who usually cook for us at the contest, he will not be able to make it this year. Therefore, please bring your own lunch for both days. However, we're planning to go out for dinner Saturday night. Bring your foamies, plan on staying late after regular flying on Saturday before heading out to dinner.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the 30th.
Adrian

Looks pretty sturdy to me. I would be willing to come down and look at it for ya next weekend. I'm only an hour away. Gonna be flying?

Chris, thanks a buch for the offer. I think I found the issue. While trying to sort out the issue last night the system just up and died and then I heard some crackling noise from one of the batteries. I took it apart and could not find anything obvious so I just now soldered it all back together and hooked it up to the charger and it a a charge just fine. I hooked it up to the system and same thing. It worked for a short time and then the system died and battery was making the same noise. I found I could establish connection and then break it again by flexing the cells around a bit. Good news is it failed on the ground and didn't burn the airplane. Bad news is it will take 3 weeks to get another delivered. I guess I will have to wait until the Fresno contest to do battle with you guys. Just as well, gives me some time to memorize the sequence. Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions and support.

RE: Pattern by the Bay Contest - Richmond, CA
Don Atwood, Bill Sneed & Rich Mendonsa came to the field this morning for some practice in preparing for the upcoming contest.
Pix # 1 - you can tell Bill was hard at work practicing, with Rich paying close attention. Unfortunately, Bill's caller Don lost interest in mid flight & decided to take a nap instead
Pix # 2 - Bill came in for a perfect 10 point landing
Pix # 3 - Don finally woke up & retrieve Bill's plane
Pix # 4 - the electric guys were hard at work trying not to get electrocuted

Hey, it was only a short nap!!! We had a great time at BARCS today, thanks to the club and Adrian for hosting a great practice day. Weather was good, overcast during the morning but still a very nice day.

Luke, I will try to come to Tomcats on Sat. At least you can see the airplane that way. You can leave the soldering equipment at home. I took it all apart and it looks like the problem is with one cell. It appears that the connection of the solder tab insidethat cellis bad. Everything external looked good but I wicked all the solder off, took the jumper PCB off and everything looked good at that point so I soldered it all back together. I guess being aerospace solder certified and working for a DOD company has some perks lol. See you Sat!

Pix 1 - CD Koopowitz has been chosen by NASA to be the next astronaut to walk on the moon again. He's currently learning how to drive the moon vehicle, & practicing how to collect rock sample at the field
Pix 2 - Derek will be wearing the latest space age flight suit made entirely out of light weight plastic material
Pix 3 - Since we know Jon "The Sheriff" Carter will be serving his world famous drink - the Rhoadies, we decide to paint some lines on the runway in case we have to administer random sobriety test

Why is Derek mowing the runway? Doesn't he grasp the concept of a lawn tractor? Maybe it is one of those racing lawnmowers?

So, Derek had the lowest ET, but who had Top Speed? Was Adrian using the CDI setup, or the electric boost?
Looks like you guys were making the BARCS field all spiffy for the contest. A few of us got to spend the day there a few days ago and it was great. It is always a treat to enjoy the views across the SF Bay with Mount Tam in the background. Beautiful place.
