Default St Clairsville Contest

It's been a long dry spell for those of us who didn't fly in the Nats, and a lot of excitement and stress for those who did. It's time for a friendly, low key contest to get back to the fun of it.

The St. C. R/C Flyers Pattern Contest is set for August 27 and 28. All classes, Sportsman through FAI will be flown. Any AMA legal airplane permitted in Sportsman.
Entry fee $20 for Sportsman, $30 all other classes.

It's an easy field to get to, just three miles off Interstate 70. Five miles of interstate to all the hotels and restaurants.

Lunch both days included in entry, Half a Houston's roast chicken plus fixin's on Saturday, Sausage sandwiches and what-not on Sunday.

Field open for practice Friday at 1:00.

More details later.

I've included a pic of a roast chicken just to show you what it's all about. : )

Scott,

The chicken is worth the entry fee, even if we didn't fly. I PLAN to be there, pending the weather.

Thanks for starting the thread Scott. I just talked with the chicken man and he is stoking the coals as we speak. 2 years ago we had 17 pilots and last year 24 and hope to see more new faces this year. More to follow and a flyer will be posted here on RCU and also on the NSRCA site.

Any questions contact me at [email protected] or at 740-695-2021 or on my cell at 740-338-8386

Hey Guys,
As I get questions via Email I'll answer
them here also.Feel free to ask questions here. You will have to bring your own power as we don't have access to the grid.

Thanks for the question Ray,

I cannot commit (sadly) without a careful look at the budget, but already got the other half's approval =)

What are Bridgeport and Wheeling like? Drove through there on my way into Ohio, remember it looking kind of cool, but it was getting late and didn't have time to stop.

Wheeling is a fairly old steel town. There are still a lot of old buildings and such, and its kind of neat to drive through downtown. Wheeling Downs is also there, but there isn't much else. In the winter, the lights from Oglebay state park are amazing.

Joe, if you're looking for something for your Significant Other in Wheeling, I'd suggest Oglebay Park. She could tour the Mansion Museum and the glass museum (this part of the Ohio Valley once produced a lot of fine glass) or just enjoy the natural surroundings. As Arch said, there is also Wheeling Island Casino and dog track if you have money to throw away. There is a wine and jazz festival scheduled for that Saturday between 4:00 and 10:00 PM in the Heritage Port area, a beautiful setting along the Ohio next to downtown.
There are several shopping areas but nothing really unique

Back to the pattern meet. Please make sure to e-mail me with your info if you are planning to attend so I can get as many people in the scoring software ahead of time as possible. My email is pcosky at comcast dot net, thanks.

Also, you FAI guys, what do you want to fly on Sunday?

Scott: just what I needed to hear - we're coming
Pete: email sent (forgot what is needed for pre-reg; sent name, AMA, class, radio freq. and judging exp.)

If anyone happens to have a nice 18x12 (or 18x14!!) prop for an electric motor, other than APC, I would really like to buy or try at the contest.

Pete and Rick,q
I will be there so you can tell the chicken man to fire em up. Val will also be coming, he will be flying sportsman. He has improved tremendously and I am looking forward to some uneventful landings from him.

I will even have my transmitter set to the correct model.

See you next weekend.

Hello all,

Weather forcast is looking good! Here is our projected itinerary.
We will be at the field early Friday for last minute field prep and the field should be ready for practice by 1:00. We'll have some provided lunch.
The gate will be open about 8:00 on Saturday to start registering for you early risers. Coffee and donuts provided. If you get a chance, preregister with Pete Cosky. We would like to get pictures of all flyers with their airplanes and a group shot before the pilots meeting which will be at 10:00. Due to sun issues 1st wheels up will be at 11:00. Rounds 1 and 2 should be complete before Lunch and lunch should be around 1:45. (Houston's world famous chicken) with some pretty nice fixins. After lunch, a nap, well maybe not. Anyway after rounds 3 and 4 well decide on dinner. Usually Beef and Brew ala Bob Kane.

Sunday, again, wheels up at at 11:00 with a lunch of hot sausage sandwiches and goodies as time permits.

I'm really looking forward to a great contest this year! We have a few new amenities for the judges. Nice chairs and some much needed shade. Last year the sun was absolutely brutal. No more fried brains before you have to fly.

See you all soon!!

Rick

Really glad to hear you guys are going to make it! I think with the weather looking good we should have a good turnout.

Preregister with Pete if possible.

Arch,
Will you bring the Vanquish?

Rick,

Jim Willing still has the Vanquish. He is finishing the season in D1 with it, so I wont have it with me.
