Glow is still way cheaper for me than electric. And I don't have to carry a generator around to charge and wait for charge to finish.

I noted several airplanes with really cool aerodynamic devices, typical sons of CFD; check Seba's plane!!!
Slowly, F3A are becoming like Fomula 1 cars...

He has even been on the podium of some world cup competitions. Not to mention 2 times nordic champion and 7 time Finish champion. So I think he is starting to get his name known.

He is the kind of guy that when the others here (myself included) are still flying indoors because it’s too cold outside, hops in his fathers tractor, plows the snow from the field and starts practicing F3A. He probably flies as many flights a year as the rest of the Finish F3A pilots combined. That is dedication. I hope he puts on some killer flights in the semis tomorrow!

Yes kimmo..
I HOPE Allso he com to the final.. I saw him in France , i still mean lassi fly one of the best F. In the semmis . But the other lands judged no he is dame Good..;-) sooo...

The guys from countries where there is less opportunity to fly/ practice/observe with many other FAI groups - must not only be good- they must be able to shift styles to please the judges.
Judges are only human- they sniff the prevailing wind and the favored style (for whatever reason) becomes reflected in the scoring-
The guys who make the cut have paid attention- as well as being technically very good.
Making the cut to be in attendance as a competitor is a challenge in it's self

It's a bit like Olympic ice skating -
You have to do what the judges decide is the best

Hi,
Well it seems , unless something very strange happens, that team USA have won the team event - well done.

Also seems as if going first in round 1 hurt CPLR.

Brian

Edit;
I wonder what happened to Burbaud in round 1 ?

Brian, from Matt H post on GBRCAA he said there was a YS cut in the semis - I assume this was the reason

Also, only between USA & Japan for the team & as you say something very strange has to happen for USA not to win the team - well done!

Hi,
Yes and you nearly had three.
If it's worked out Brett Wickizer is only 23/24 or so raw points away - over two rounds - that's nothing really and I've just been told that he's only had the model he's flying for a few days before he travelled - that's some going.

I actually liked CPLR's snap the best that I've seen so far. I LOVE the way Seba's airplane rolls though.

Yes, he was really was very close this year, being 1st up on the first day of the Preliminaries may have been the difference.

Your son did well congrats to Brett! I think it was that first draw too. That would be hard.

Hi Mike - congrats !!

Mike/Robert,
Being first up in front of any group of judges is a bit of a lottery.
If your good it can almost only hurt.

I spoke with Bryan just last week. The plane Brett is flying is brand new....Bryan finished it only a couple weeks before the tournament. So at most maybe 50 flights on it, (maybe 7 gallons of 30%)??. Brett and Bryan are a fine team.

When I first judged Brett's flying back in 2007 I made a comment that I was most impressed by this young man's flying. The reason was simple....Bret had never flown a National Comp before and to make the Final on his first try was extraordinary, particularly when flying against so many veterans of the sport.

And how about Andrew Jesky....just a fine talent.

But I have to tip my hat to Jason at this WC. He overcame terrific obstacles (of nis own making) to come out as high as he has. Kudos to him

Hey, BTW- was Joseph Suczur the highest Junior?

Everyone who competes in the WC should be respected and congratulated. Just getting to the WC is a tremendous accomplishment. It's all to easy to focus on the top guys and get wrapped up in "who wins" (myself included), but my hat is off to EVERYONE there. Great job to all!

No, he was 8th in the Junior class if I counted right. If you look at the standings from the Prelims, there is a "J" next to the names of the Juniors.

Matt:

I don't think Joseph is the top Jr., but did a very credible job and may be the youngest flyer there. No identification of the junior flyers but I see another Suzuki from Japan that must be flying as a junior and flying pretty well. Additionally, the Italian pilot in the finals was the junior winner in Muncie, not sure if he is still flying as a junior or not. By the way, Mark Atwood mentioned that Joseph received applause for his landing on the 4th round of P. Extremely difficult conditions that afternoon. I am sure that we will be seeing much more of Joseph.
