Default Ys ignition plug

HI all,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced failure of the YS ignition plug after only 10 flights.
My 175z cdi refused to rev at high throttle .....misfiring and not making power throttle back and run good below 3/4 throtle

Removed the ignition plug and noticed the top part detached from the main body.........this is the second time first plug 20 flights and second 10 flights

The plugs were both new and genuine YS parts.

Just wondering if a bad batch worked themselves into circulation or something else is causing these failures

regards

I've never had a plug break. I usually get around 120-150 flights from a plug.

Are you sure the plug was causing the misfire and not something else, (sensor?), which resulted in the plug breaking?

I am fairly sure its the plug.

I replaced it with an older plug and no problem.... see how it goes

What do you set the plug gap at? I find that a tight gap works best. I set it at 10 thou, which is less than the specs say.

Yeah that's 12 thou, which is on the bottom of the range. Should be OK but if you have misfiring, it would be worth going to 10 thou, (0.25mm) and see how it goes.

Make sure that you support the plug wire to the intake. If you don't, it can put extra stress on the plug. Once I started tying off the ignition wire, many of those problems went away.

I don't support the lead in any way, just use the grub screw in the head to lock it.

Hmm, that's interesting.

I've been using CDI's for around 5 years from the 170 to the 185 with hundreds of flights and never had that happen. I only use the YS plug.

Mavros,

That is a manufacturing problem, typical to any plug, it is not engine related.

I think you are correct apareira it does look like a factory problem that maybe YAMADA are not aware of.
Its the second failure that I had with the YS plug.
