Oakdale 2 day Contest, 6/8-9
Annual pattern even coming to Oakdale, CA on 6/8. This is a BIG field, with 700+ ft paved runway, sitting right next to beautiful Woodward reservoir. We will be holding 6 rounds of all AMA classes as well as 4 rounds of "Classic". Sun is an issue in the morning hours, so we will begin each day with 2 rounds of classic. Flying to start at 9:00 each day, pilots meeting at 8:30. Ron Davies and his wife will be providing lunch. Hope to see you all there.

I don't know, with that tiny little runway we might have trouble landing our pattern planes on it..... ;-)
Just kidding everyone, the runway is huge, I think you could land a full scale J3 on it, turn around, taxi back and take off with a little bit of headwind.

Guys - After seeing a little bit of what Jamie can do at Arvin let me give all D7 pattern pilots some advice, "DO NOT play poker with this man!" He makes the cards and other things break the laws of nature!
Looking forward to a great contest.
Thanks,

I just pre-registered. There was no selection for classic, so I made note of my class selection in the comment box.
See you there!

I'm looking forward to this weekend's contest. Will the field be available for practice on Friday and is anyone planning on going out for some practice?

Yes, the field will be open for practice on Friday. Jon and I plan to be there by 10:00. The sun is an issue before then anyway.

I didn't think to grab scores or I could have logged them here. Was fun. Great to see such a great turnout from So Cal.. Thanks for coming up guys and gals... Was great to see Tony and get some pointers from him which I desperately need. lol
Very windy today. Flew classic and that was it. Had a good turn out in Sportsman and Intermediate which is awesome.
Things I remember, Jamie Schoolcraft won Sportsman, Lawrence Tougas won Intermediate, Jon Bruml won Advanced, I squeaked out the win in Masters, Tony won FAI and Jim K won classic.
Classic is a blast to watch. I am going to have to get one.. I think I will return to glow for it. Yikes. Did I just say that? haha

I had a great time, despite the 108 degrees on Saturday! Would have liked to got in some F3A flights on Sunday, but what can you do? It's a beautiful field and a great crowd there. Also pleased to see 8 Tailwinds members at this contest. Myself, Robert Fish, Mike and Jean Greear, Jamie and Steven Schoolcraft and Mike and Jim Whitacre. We made up a quarter of the contest!
I love flying Classic Pattern! It seems to be a great addition to the event and a lot of fun. Now to find out why my P-7 would only draw out of the 4 oz. header tank. Makes for a very short flight!
The NorCal contests are always fun. I've got to see if I can make it to the Napa event in a few weeks. They're always worth the drive!
Thanks to Jon, Dale and Peter along with the club for the use of their great field!

RE: Oakdale 2 day Contest, 6/8-9
Thanks to all who showed up, survived the heat and sun on Saturday and then dealt with the 30 degree temperature drop (caused by 25mph winds!) on Sunday. I wished we could have flown some AMA on Sunday but I think the breeze and maybe a little tiredness from the 108 degree long day on Saturday took the fight out of us! Here are some scores.
Classic Masters B 32K
Jon Carter 768.25
Don Atwood 768
Jamie Schoolcraft 752.25
Dale Olstinske 742.25
Frank Capone 709.5
Lawrence Tougas 656.75
Paul Wells 39.75 (Paul showed up with his beautiful little Minare and I talked him into flying at the contest! He was pretty nervous but he got it up and down in one piece! He had to leave but i think he will be back!)
Classic Masters A 45K
Jim Kimbro 1197.25
Robert Fish 1096
Dick Belden 1080.75
Tony Frackowiak 985.75 (Tony had some fuel feed issues)
AMA scores later!
Thanks

Jennifer and I want to thank Jon, Dale, Dick, Peter, and Ron & Mrs. Davies for a very memorable and worthwhile trip. A special thanks once again to Vic Anderson for driving up just to fry in the heat and judge! What a guy! Thank you Jon Bruml for a tooth and nail battle. That's good stuff right there, I don't care who ya are....
A special thanks to Jon and Dale for adding Classic Pattern to the mix. It may be a pain in the ***** to some of you guys but we really appreciate the opportunity to get our there and bend that throttle stick forward just a bit.
Hopefully the pics will load....
