As I believe Brett is living in Jacksonville now, I would assume that Jason and Brett were present at the contest. 50/50 shot from there. I think Brett recently lost the Alferma, so I really hope that it wasn't him. It sucks either way, but these guys can show up to a big contest having finished an airplane the day before, and still do well. One team member, I believe, has finished building an airplane at a contest before.

Those Team USA guys should be flying alone. I've been to a couple of contests where this has been the rule. I was a CD at 2 other contests where I held up one line while the Team member flew. This is not a big deal for the CD and should have been done here. I was practicing on a Friday night at a contest when Chip took off on the other line with his World's plane. I spent 1/2 the flight just staying out of his way and eventually just landed and waited for him to be done. No big deal.

Good point Steve. Andrew was told he couldn't fly with others here in Michigan this weekend. He wanted to but Verne his callerrefused to place his plane on the runway.
Mark Atwood Team USAmanager said it's too close to the worlds for anyone to risk a midair.
Nothing is tougher to endure than a midair. It effects the way you fly with another plane for a longtime.
Last year at the Weak Signals contest Brandon and Harry Els got into an epic collision. It spooked the kid for a longtime.
This year we had another midair that took down Bill Prichitt the other guy's plane landed and got repaired. At pattern contests midair's area fact of life.
Too bad this happens to anyone.

Another contest for D3 in the books. Thanks to Mac Hodges for letting D3 have the Andersonville contest there again. Emory and his family did a great job keeping things flowing, even with a computer bug that delayed seeing a few rounds of scores for a while. Victor had a back-up system rolling soon after it was discovered and before the 5th round things were back on track. With the chance of rain late Saturday and Sunday, Emory decided we would fly as many rounds up to 5 before dark. Well as weather persons are, we were able to finish 5 rounds and still have some sun for a nice Jet show from Marcio and more flying up until dark.
The downer of the event, as you have read, was on Sunday when Brett was finishing up his Rolling 8 in F and Mike Wingo was exiting out of a maneuver in Advanced and they mid-aired (I was calling for Brett and watching for Mike but didn't think it was an issue. I was wrong. Mike also said he thought he was further out than it appeared. Maybe the morning sun got to us). Unfortunately, neither plane survived, but thankfully they missed going in the lake.
I want to thank, on behalf of the Team, everyone that supported the Team again (last time I beat on you D3 guys for your support at contests... this year) and a special thanks to Emory for his contribution on behalf of the contest. He usually takes $100 from the proceeds and buys a small plane as a raffle prize. This year he approached me about getting 5 raffle tickets instead for the pilots. With his decision, and the support of the other pilots, we raised over $400 (I'm sure more including what Brett ended up with) for the Team.

There's no secret to keep here guys! Mike and I had an unfortunate midair, for sure. I have an airplane that should be ready within a couple weeks. This is a setback, but certainly not the first one I've ever encountered. Thanks to the hard work of some great friends I'll only be missing out on about a week of practice with an airplane I wasn't going to take to South Africa anyways. I feel worse for Mike, who lost his primary airplane!
In any case, thanks to everyone for a great contest. This was my first D3 contest. I had a great time, met a lot of great people, and am looking forward to many more in the future.
In addition I'll echo Jasons gratitude for everyone's support of the team. Without you all we wouldn't be able to go anywhere.
