Just a note to pass along ,
A friend just purchased a new YS 175sport and we flew it this weekend.
This Motor is a very good buy for the power.
I was able to turn a 19.5-11.5 comparable to the 1.70 dz

It was much easier to tune and lighter by 20plus grams. fuel economy was comparable to the 1.70 dz
I`m going to get one for my Valiant to have a nice combo.

Central Hobbies has them, and a few other distributors as well

Looks like a great engine Bryan, but I think YS missed a trick by not making the 175 sport compatible with low oil content fuel.

Maybe the extra work it takes in machining the oil groves in all the parts is what they did not do in order to keep the price reduced?

I do not know for a fact, but it is my best guess

Yea maybe, I think it was intended for the sport market But, I was surprised it performed very well with no breaking in on 20% Nitro.
It`s pretty cool here 60 deg, but the humidity was up in the 80`s. and I believe a good low cost high performance motor for the Pattern market. As far as the smoke trail with high oil content, I think it`s not a big deal really, and the sport guys like to see it as part of the tuning process.

While on the smoke trail subject, Chip has been working with Cool Power on a new low smoke fuel. Fred sent some for me to test, I have been running it. So far I like it, no needle change between the Heli ,low smoke , and limited smoke(chips fuel).my name
Power is the same. The only variable is performance in the heat. I have limited testing on that so far,But I like it.
With my new Cooling valve cover for the YS, it should not be a problem.

How much oil are you running Bryan in your CDi's and how much is in the limited smoke fuel? I am currently running my own specified blend mixed by Optifuel. Nitro is 30% but I have been experimenting with oil contents between 10 and 15%. Oil is ultra low viscosity Klotz.

Limited smoke??? We should have extra smoke!!!! Nothing like a biplane, wheels up, blue skyes, and a beautifull smoke trail!!

I don't think a good flight is hurt by the smoke trail. The smoke trail helps to "place" the plane in the sky. I think the electric planes look a bit lost in the air.

I`m not running the CDI at the moment . I`m running the cool power low smoke, I`m not sure what the oil content is exactly I think 18%
The new fuel is a little less oil (around 15%) BUt it`s a different viscosity oil. Humidity and weather conditions cause most of the smoke trail we see in the sky. The New blend is an attempt to limit this. But, If the engine is properly tuned (most guys run the pump too rich and the Needle too lean) there really is not much smoke anyway.

The 185 runs so clean( with Very little smoke) that the airplane after a gallon run through it ,is almost completely clean!
This translates into Fuel economy. You can easily fly 15 minutes and land with fuel to spare ,that`s Three FAI Patterns now we can run 8 oz tanks if we want to, but no one wants that! it`s why we still fly glow
I wonder if they will pass a rule now at the Nat`s practice sights

As a "YS Novice" I would be happy with the motor running reliably on 20% oil. I had a FZ1.10 but did not have the patience to tame the beast, so I sold it. Among 'sport' users, 30% oil is a necessity for YS engines. Some guys run them on 20% and a few guys on a little less, but for the most part people feel you need the 30% to get them to idle right and run consistently.

If the new engine uses 20/20 fuel and is easier to tune, they scored well. If people are still flying glow engines when I retire I'll probably own one or two

For what it's worth, I've found the 1.75 (especially) and 1.70 to be 'fit and forget', absolutely rock solid reliability with no 'beast taming' required. Just set the needles, make sure it's always got a nice smoke trail, and burn the gallons away.

I am running the DZ170 and 175. Both are set and solid. Interesting and you have me thinking/wondering on "pump rich and needle lean". Lots of smoke on the 20/20 VP fuel. They are running good and I hate to mess with them. I do sometimes question WOT fuel supply so moving this year to the 5/16 fuel line. Overkill? I like they now offer a sport Fz175. So the 185 is available now? Central (who I've been buying through) doesn't show it on their site yet.

I'm using standard size fuel line on my 185's. No problems.
