Don,
The club does have electricity. I was there last Sunday to check it out and there are a dozen or so outlets in the pits. They have a large pit area with two covered shade areas with tables under them. I would recommend bringing an EZ-Up if you've got it because the shade may be limited.

We've got about a week and a half until the contest. I was asked about places to stay for the contest. This is the field location. When you leave the field you take County Road 29 west to County Road 102. Road 102 runs south to Davis and north to Woodland. Both are good choices, Davis is a little closer and upscale but more pricey, Woodland is a little farther but there are less expensive choices for lodging. Check out the cost and availability on Expedia or something similar.

See you there,

If you think you might attend the event please preregister at the NSRCA website. It's much better to preregister and not show than to not preregister and show. There is no penalty for preregistering and by not doing it, It adds a lot of extra effort to enter pilot data the morning of the contest. We're going to start flying at 9:00 due to afternoon sun issues at the field. So please take a minute and preregister now

As the guy running the scoring, let me re-emphasize that! If I had my way, we'd charge extra for registering "at the door" instead of pre-registering. If you are pre-registered the time cost to have you entered in the contest as a contestant is about 1 second per contestant. If you aren't pre-registered the time is 5-10 minutes, which is a HUGE cost when we're trying to get the contest up and running.

Good Morning Everyone,
We've got 3 days to go to our contest. Please help Peter and I get the contest off on the right foot by preregistering at the NSRCA website.

See you Saturday,
LT

First day of competition is complete, 4 rounds of F3A, Advanced, Intermediate & Sportsman, 3 rounds of masters before sun was threatening the box and would have been firmly into the box before masters could complete a round. We'll pick it up with Masters round 4 at 8am. Real time scores will continue to be posted as they happen on http://www.patternscoring.com/576

Absolutely a great contest! Many thanks to the Woodland -Davis club and Larry our CD who kept it all moving smoothly. Peter Vogel's scoring system is working better and better as he refines it. I only heard two cries of "Peter!" all weekend!

Thanks again,

Indeed! A really awesome contest and I can't think of a 6 round contest where I was able to leave after awards, packing up, etc. by 1:03pm!

Thanks! I was very pleased with how the system worked this time around, the new controllers are much better and actually charge the iPhone while they, themselves are charging, a huge improvement over the other ones I was using. Not as flexible in terms of giving me extra buttons for advanced features (like marking box violations) but I hadn't figured out how to bubble that out to the score print out anyway. There were NO app crashes this time around, the only issues were:

1 -- if you swipe down from the very top of the screen (i.e. on the contestant selector screen) it invokes the Apple system notification center (with stock prices, etc.) and there's no way for me to suppress that. One judge ran into it once causing a minor delay between two pilots.

2 -- if you accidentally push the home button and then resume the patternscoring app I lose some of the db connection data that the app gets when it first starts up and things get confused. This generally requires me to reboot to be sure the app is fully closed out and then restart the app to get the connection data back. No scores are harmed in this process but it does cause an annoying delay. I'll spend some time on that between now and the next contest.

When I set out on this path, I said I'd know I'd achieved success if I could judge a round while also serving as scorekeeper without letting the scoring get behind. This contest, I judged two rounds!

Yes, very nice contest! Lawrence did a great job keeping everything on time and running smoothly, while also managing to compete and place first in his class.

Not only that, Peter, but also competing... and calling! That says a lot about the reduced workload your new system allows, very impressive.

Luke, thanks for posting the great pics!

Here are a few pics from my beat up cell phone.

With his new scoring system, notice that Peter now has time to kick back and enjoy the scene
