Spent the week puttering trying to get a little done each day.
Got the wing adjusters in, wings flushed up to the fuse, wing will be secured with rubber bands, my favorite way to do it. Did some sanding and filling.
Got started on the top front. Put in guidance tubes for the needles, and have the balsa filler blocks drying now and will be doing some more sanding and filling tomorrow.
Got the base for the canopy glued up. Think I'm gonna try to round off the top of the canopy, not totally sure how I'm gonna do it yet, but have an idea.
Last of my servos are on the way as well as a new fuel tank, control horns, and tail wheel. Got my wheel pants today, so can work on them. Would like to do a cg ck before starting on the finishing to see where I'm at.
On the canopy. Anyone know if I sand through the balsa into the foam, will that matter when I go to fiberglass it and paint?

It depends on how well you seal the areas you sanded through. If you use epoxy finishing resin to apply the glass with, it won't matter. But if you use epoxy paint like Klass Kote clear to bed the glass, the solvent will melt the foam. Actually, solvent will penetrate very thin balsa so you don't actually need to cut through it. I would use a good coating of hairspray to help seal the balsa first. Hair spray is water based and does not bother foam

I've re-sheeted foam and lapped the new sheeting well over the old so I wind up with full thickness sheeting after sanding. A little (very little) color in the glue tints the glue line so you have a guide when sanding back the new sheeting.

Here's how I make my pipe mount. It's worked well for me. Gets placed near the pipes cg. Pipe barely gets warm unlike an aluminum pipe, so haven't worried about melting anything, though most of the components used could handle some heat. As u can imagine the cooling air is plentiful. After a flight I can place my hand around the bottom to lift it up without any problem.

What spinner are you using? 4oz (113 grams), is very heavy for a spinner.

Make that a solid backplate. I had ordered the lightened but they sent me the solid instead.
I'm not to worried about the weight. Anyway, the way its looking my club is gonna ban anything over 400', so it's not gonna matter, We've got a really paranoid president who sees the faa under every rock and tries to scare everyone to his way of thinking.

I'm assuming you are flying at an AMA club. If so, contact Chad Budreau at AMA. He is now taking on a lot of the government relations roles and I'm sure he'd be happy to contact your club president and let him know that 400' is not what he seems to think it is. It is still part of an advisory circular, not a hard rule. Chad has been in all the meetings and knows a lot about what is going on. My club hosted the sUAS head Hoot Gibson a couple of weeks ago and it was a good opportunity to really pick his brain.

Hey Arch, are u in the DC SFRA over there? I'll find another club if I have to and just practice on weekends, if it should come to that. I know a guy who has a private field who would prob let me use it also.
Good news, the cg came out near perfect. Mark shows it on the front edge of the wing tube. I'm currently just in front of the halfway point of the tube. With the ignition and rx batts yet to mount I can get it just where I'll need it.
Time to tear it down and start sanding and filling. I'm gonna try to round the canopy yet a little more. Cadence has a huge vert stab compared to the nuance which is quite small compared. Fuse size between the two is comparable.

Looking good! Sorry I haven't been on rcu in a while but just a point of interest for you... Over the last few sessions I have been moving the cg back and testing. Right now I'm at the back edge of the wing tube and it seems quite good. Not done testing though so it may end up a touch more forward.
I need to get more flights on it but I've been taking out my other plane whenever the weather has been good.

Picked up some carbon APC props to try. 20.5x10, 21x10, and 21x10.5.
21x10 weighs 4.4oz. It's not a wide blade like their other 21x10. I'm thinking it might be a good one to use.
Made a couple changes. Moved the rudder servo forward and also got rid of the choke servo. Realized all I had to do was change the choke position and I could run a wire out the side.
Pipe should be here anytime.
The v2 fourtitude fuel tanks are nice. I like it a lot better then the water bottle type setup.

They also make a 21 X 10PN which is the same as the Carbon 21 X 10PN and that's what I'm comparing to.

The nylon APC,'s in this size are terrible weight wise. Make the plane precess something awful in corners. Even at 4.4 ounces it's a lot of weight but better.
