Default Which Pattern Plane is Best? Looking to Purchase

I've been looking at a pattern plane project for some time now..

the reason I have posted this thread is because I need help locating a plane which seems to be pretty hard to find(at least for me)

what are some of the distributors websites?

I have explored a PLPROD project, but they are just so darn $$ and seemingly hard to get. I could barely get through the emails that have come back and forth between them.

I have called central hobbies but they have no planes in stock at this time.

I want a fiberglass job, no covering jobs.... I will be painting it myself so plain white is preferred

I will be electrifying it, so it would be nice if it was known to be lightweight.

Tapered back fixed gear is preferred over retracts.

120 size is fine

Thanks for any help! I appreciate it!

Hi
My girlfriend bought me a ZN line Synergy for xmas.
It is a proven flyer and the build quality is flawless.

Piedmont's Temptation is a state-of-the art. It's very light (mine is only 4400g with ys140dingo installed).

try looking at pac's panacea, mine is on its way and i will post how it does when it flys, but it is very promising and is much less than the PL and ZN kits.

Mike,

You have a great girlfriend. Keep her.

How long is it going to take to get delivery on the Synergy?

With the exception of Norman, where can these planes be found?

Thanks,

Rob, these four websites have the bulk of the pattern kits available from U.S. "manufacturers." I put "manufacturers" in quotes because these are all small shops, run by pattern flyers for pattern flyers. They are not long on fancy websites, not full of detailed specifications, no cascades of construction photos. But the models are well-designed, well put together, and reasonably priced for what they provide. And of course they are up to the standards of serious competition in the air. Not to knock the excellent products available from Europe and Asia, but dealing with a U.S. source means no expensive shipping, customs complications, off-shore freight damage issues, long delays in delivery, etc.

They mostly deal with pattern flyers who are knowledgeable about the designs, but generally are more than happy to spend time on the phone to help someone looking for a first pattern plane. If you call any of them and say you want to power with electric, I expect they can save you a lot of grief and steer you to something appropriate, and very possibly include some custom electric features or modifications at little or no extra cost.

If one of these outfits can't help you, then you need to get ahold of Jason Shulman, trailblazer in electric pattern at last year's FAI World Championships. Good luck! Let us know how it all works out.

Wow,

thanks for the links!

the guy in mississippi seems to have lots of options for sure.. Plenty to put my teeth into for a few weeks.. Thanks for the links!

My closest 'pattern' plane to date is a top FG which spins a 15 x 8 prop @ around 9000 rmps. (electric), here is a pic and the motorcalc data.

It is hybrid, and supposed to do some 3d stuff at the same time, but I am looking for something closer to pattern.. I'm tired of dealing with cg issues, wing incidence problems, tracking, etc.

Thanks Again!

Hi Folks
Yes I know I have a great girlfriend.
She originally wanted to buy me an Angel Shadow but I talked her out of it.
What you guy dont know is the hunk of expensive sparkly carbon which is now on her finger. To complement the eqaully expensive bit of carbon in the shape of a cross round her neck
( i think she was feeling a bit guilty)

But it is the thought that counts

and I love her anyway

Mike
