Default Help ! widebody 40 vs. os 46

Hi everybody!

I put an os 46 engine (3 years old with new bearing) on my newly built widebody 40. I had 5 flies with this plane and most of the time, the engine is struggling to pull it over the top of the loop ( especially the square loop). Other than that, it flies good.

Any suggestion for good performance with less expense ?
1) add Tune Pipe
2) replace Engine: Super tiger G51, 61
or thunder tiger GP61 or .............
3) others...

Appreciate your help!
Thanks in advance !

hi....... i had a phoenix model atlantis and a OS46FX and had this problem too.....problem is......this engine has not enough power......i changed to a Super tigre 51 (little bit more than enough) and it flew like a dream......no need change of tune pipe i think super tigre 51 is the best choice

Cheers

Agree.... pipes are complex things to deal with...

I would check the OS 50 SX, I think it will fit in the same mount, and it has almost the same power of a 60.

Probably a little pricey... but if it fits in the same holes, it could worth the difference (if any)

Thanks a lot guys !!

I am going to do some price checking on these two engines and pick one for my widebody 40.

Also, I will report the improvements later.

Have a nice weekend.

Wow! I found the price for Super Tiger G51 :US$80 and OS 50 SX US$160 at Tower hobby.
Do you think the engine is the same with the one you found for G51?
IF so, I am going to buy that rightaway. I might need to modify the mount a bit, but it is ok by saving $80.

Just curious. Since the price of ST GT61 or Thunder Tiger GP61 is not that much more than ST G51, how about use one of these two for the widebody 40? Would the weight or the power or others be the concern?

Thanks

Or you could try an APC 12x5 on YS 20/20 fuel...

It gives my 5.5 pound Kaos pretty much unlimited performance on a OS .46AX - 12,300 static.

How much does the Widebody weigh?

Thanks team singapore ! That is a good answer

As to the weight of my widebody 40. Since I don't have a nice balance. From the reading of the regular mechanical weight balance, it weighs around 5.5lb - 6 lb (with os 46). The error can be around .5 lb easily.
I test the thrust of the OS46 with the plane (using cool power 15%), it just balance the total weight of the plane and stay in the air with full throttle.
I used both 11X6 and Pattern 11X8 prop, the results are the same.

I just got the ST G51 and it fits the engine mount perfect except for the holes. Can't wait to break it in and fly the plane before it snow.

Thanks guys.

Hi all,
The more that I read about the WIDEBODY 40/60, the more I want one. What is the 40 going for in the States (most inexpensive). I have the wherewithall to get it to Germany. I like it primarily for the size - small enough to use as a weekend hack without putting me in the (fuel) poorhouse.

I can probably get one here, but the importer is in Spain - even with the EU, final price w/shipping just might be TOO MUCH[:@]!

The Supertigre has the same power as an OS-50SX? I seriously doubt that....

What info. do you have on the performance of the ST-51?

I was quoted a price of $128 and $12 shipping. I can't remember if this was from Pattern Proz or the Cullman, Alabama store.

The 40 comes in a big box. It may run a bit expensive to ship. I've mailed packages to Germany and other EU countries within the past year, so I know a little of the prices.

Hi,
I found a German distributor - quotes the WB40 KIT at EURO 146 (about $180). Not too bad considering shipping, import taxes and our 16% added value (sales) tax[sm=drowning.gif].

What do you figure the shipping costs? Actually, getting the kit over here would pose no problem - couple of club cohorts with Lufthansa and another who is in the States at least 5 times a year.

Are the wings pre-sheeted?

The buddyLufthansa route would be your best bet. I would estimate shipping at around $40-50 due to weight and the size of the box. Ouch on the tax! It was 14% when I lived in Germany many years ago.

Yes, the wings are expertly sheeted. They did a very good job. Also, the fin/rudder, stablizer/elevator, and front top half or deck are sheeted. You cut out the control surfaces yourself. You have to sheet the turtledeck.

$180 isn't that bad considering shipping and taxes.....maybe......they are really cheap in Argentina compared to here in the U.S.
