Take your measurements from the TE of the fin/rudder right from the plans. Measure forward to the hinge line. Cut and cap. I do this step with the LE and TE's and the tip installed and sanded.
After you mark the hinge line, measure from the bottom at the hinge line, and the same distance at some point forward for cutting the fin to size.
It is noteworthy to not cut away the capped portion of the fin at the hinge line, but instead add a piece of 1/4" to build up the chord slightly.
I hope that makes sense. If not, I'm about to do one myself so I'll take more detailed pics of the process.

Bla Bla,
Since it seemed that the electrics where getting a bad rap, I just wanted to to share some other electric combs that worked.. I lost my electric 1 week prior to the NATS and went into a loaned glow plane and it was hard to go back to that.. whats a glow plug <lol>
Anyhow Mike has a awesome plane and looking forward to see his electric version..

I didn't use the gator jig. I built mine from MDS board and wood stations that I epoxied in place at the former locations. There are a number of pictures of what I did around page 7.
Mike might have some info on jig options....

It was just the railing. I went to the local Hardware Store an they had 10' sticks of Superstrute, an that was what I needed to complete my 7 station jig. Thanks.

Someone must have a good friend working at Radio Shack to get the Bushnell laser level for $ 15.00. Just left the local Radio Shack $ 60.00 lighter,. They sell regualar for $ 39.99 They don,t make them no more. So I got a Discount price of $ 29.99 each so I bought the 2 they had, Don't figure, every body stops selling things that work. So I you see one or two or three you better snatch em up.

That being said, I just retrofitted my plane with a nose ring former and additional bracing; I'll let you know if it's enough, my cowl wasn't made for this when it was laid up.
I'll post some pics later.
I'm also furiously cutting this monster stack of foam, so everyone's orders should go out at the beginning of next week. My apologies for the wait, but there's one of me and my son is in for surgery (again). So, I'm plugging away as hard as I can....

Hey Mike,
Take care of your family first, I'm sure no one will mind if that takes priority.
I'm just wondering if you have ever worked up a shipping cost for Short Kit #3 (plans, composites and cores) to Canada? My postal code is T4A 2K7 if you need it for the rate.
Thanks,
Mark

Yep I just sent one up there. It runs about $430 for the standard version, $460 for the carbon canopy version. That's getting up there in price, so you have to want a Black Magic pretty bad

So shipping is $90USD for the kit? Ouch, that is getting a bit out of hand. Still not as bad as the $2000 ARF's, though. And I get to build it myself, which is a bonus to me.
So, how much for just the plans and composites? I have a foam cutter semi-local to me, so it might work out better for me to get them done up here instead.
Thanks,
Mark

Mike,
There was only so much room in the NatNews. Michelle and I spent a lot of time trying to balance the "news" versus the material we could have printed. More like agonising!
There were a lot of people who were doing the real work for whom I wish I could have given more coverage. The folks out on the flight lines running the sites, the scoring people etc.
The pilots themselves also worked as judges and I have never seen so many people trying to help people get their equipment to work. Marvelous stuff that I witnessed but could not fit in.
Your wife was terrific and Bobby Stout's site was that one that that got it done in a timely manner. It was almost like there were two Nationals going on!

Well I just went and looked again and it appears that he is eligible, the links for sportsman data and points standings where updated today and now show him in first place. Glad to see the web site being updated frequently.
