WOW! You do fantastic work!! True molded balsa top and bottoms, I'll bet it's really light!!! Your wing is truly impressive too. Did you have the ribs lazer cut? I like the looks of your plane very much, It's a winner!

Just picked up my Defiant kit... WOW !
Amazing craftsmanship and beauty, the complete fuse with chin and cowl - 856g - strong and super light. I just love the aggressive looks and style of the defiant. Awesome fit and finish. The included wheel pants are super nice only 6 g heavier in primer than the small bolly carbon pants.
I am very excited about this build. I am leaning towards an electric but might just go YS.

Fanstatic job as you are use to do or like European do (it's a joke !!!)
How do you do to round (I don't know if it is the good word !) the balsa in the fuse ?
Do you glue every sheet of balsa before putting in the mold ??

Hey All,
IF anybody has a set of extra carbon gear or the hard to find PBG 7/8" x 30" Tube and Socket set please PM me. It seems like these carbon parts are out of stock everywhere. I am also looking for a 3 1/2 spinner....
I have been working on my weight sheet for this plane and it looks like I could make weight easily with the hacker. Or I may go with a DZ install - oh decisions - decisions....
This Defiant has a aggressive "interceptor" look. I have been working on a number of trim schemes - I may do a thunderbirds theme - combining Native American Indian Art and the US Airforce Team F-16 trim scheme. I love working on trim and paint schemes.
I am very excited about this project....

Hi Claude!!!
Hope you'e doing well!! Yes, I glue all fuselage balsa together then cut to shape using a template. Then wet good with ammonia water and bag in the mold for at least 24 hours until good and dry. In order to have balsa go to the seam edge I had to make a .25 inch thick tooling that attaches to the complete parameter of the mold flange. After the fuse is layed up and out of the bag, the tooling is removed and the fuselage sides are trimed to the mold flange. A lot more work involved in a balsa laminate fuselage. Id say additional 7 hours compared to the other way.

It would be like comparing apples to oranges, there is a lot that I like about both planes. The thing about the Defiant is that it's produced in a very small numbers and not in a commercial factory setting. Also I don't think there are many true composite kits available to kit builders with balsa sandwich layup. The quality of todd's work has to be seen as it's amazing. The work I have seen over there on Tuny's thread is amazing as well. I really love the looks of his plane too. I am really looking forward to both builds.

There are no "plans" as it was a composite fuse and foam cores for wings and stabs kit. I just sold (Gave away) the kit in #178 by Handglider. I don't know if the kit producer is still making them, I doubt it as it was very labor intensive to produce.
