RE: Venus II
Joe: I hate the crappy bendy aluminum gear that comes with the Venus planes
Mine even came with one gear leg made from noticeably thinner aluminum than the other leg!!!
tele1974: I see that you have you motor mounted vertical. I like it. What RPM's are you getting with that prop.
I havent tach'ed it since I got it broke in and tuned last year and now I cant remember for sure. I think I was getting the 9000+ that Horizon advertises for their benchmark 16x6. These days I just fill the 24oz tank with 30% nitro fuel and fly for 25 minutes
tele1974: How is the vertical pull with that prop?
I'm happy with the vertical. Dont know how it compares to other planes / engine combos, but I do have to thottle back to stop the climb when I want to do a hammerhead stall.

Of course I am never happy. I am considering going with a YS110. The YS has more power than my Saito125BK right or am I wrong. I looked at the specs and the YS is another 8 ounces. Thats a half a pound difference!!

RE: Venus II
The YS is not too heavy for the front of the plane, and it has GOBS of power. If you run 30/30 you should be able to swing a 15x10 with the 1.10 and the plane will love it. IIRC the YS 1.10 is lighter than the OS 1.20 w/ muffler. I'm sure the Saito will fly the plane well too, but the performance with my YS was nuts.

RE: Venus II
I am using a MAC muffler on my 120AX. This muffler is way lighter than the stock one, fits nicely in the bottom of the cowl, and costs no more than the standard big box one.

joe- noticed you changed landing gears, what size did you end up with from graph tech?

Take a bunch of measurements and give them a call. Together you can find a mold that is close in size, and they will modify it to you liking.

RE: Venus II
Venus II discontinued. What devastating news!
Powered by a Saito 125, it is one of the nicest planes I've ever owned. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement when the time comes to replace mine?

RE: Venus II
I was considering ordering another Venus II kit stripping it and recovering it. And, realized that it was discontinued. I have to wonder what it going to be replaced with? A larger Sequence... if that is the case. I have a Syssa 180 HP that needs a home in a pattern plane. I would love to put it in my Venus but their is no room for the pipe. They will certainly have to do their home work to compete with the 2m plane that 3DH is coming out with.

RE: Venus II
A suitable replacement pattern plane in this size for around 300 bucks. That is going to be difficult to find. Theirs a challenge for you RC shoppers. What do you got guys. Is their anything that will accommodate a pipe. I have a Syssa 180 HP gas engine with a pipe that I would like to get in a pattern plane. Problem, I can't spend a grand on a airframe. I think the Focus II is the only one that I know of that would be a suitable replacement. Is their anything else guys.
I just checked it and it is for the 140-160 glow engines. Its too big for our 125's.

I will second the motion...for a Gas/ Glow compatible replacement for the Venus II. I still haven't decided where my Syssa HP 180 is going to go.

What do you think about dle-20 on the venus?
It is almost as powerfull as os120ax and only a bit heavier....

RE: Venus II
I like the Venus II so much I ordered a second one right from Tower before they stopped selling them. Got a $50 discount and did the three pay for $75 payments. Working on putting that ARF together right now.
I also purchased a new OS Max 1.20AX two stroke for this one! The other one has an OS 1.20 pumped four stroke on it and I love it with that one.
I'm guessing the two stroke will give me noticeably more power. Ouch on the fuel costs though, especially with 20/20, which is what I use.

RE: Venus II
I use the red Omega 10% fuel in my OS 120AX and have had no problems and plenty of power. I pay $13.00/gallon when buying a 4 gallon case. I did put a Perry pump on my 120AX and moved the tank of the Venus back to the CG. I did have to lean the low end 1/2 turn and re-adjust the high end but it starts and runs great. I do like a low idle for landing this floater, so I have used the flap switch on my JR system and mixed a higher idle when the switch is up and a very low idle when I lower the flap switch; works great.
