Any recommendations on what prop to use for the first flights?
I ran an APC 16x13 initially but I have a 17x13 on there right now and it does good. You might try something in that range, Quique told me that. He thought that that was a good combo when he saw it fly, so it's worth a shot.

Lee Davis also recommended the Bolly 17.5x12 which I have. It just seems the engine should have some time on it before it's loaded up with a big, high pitched prop.

Update on Titan progress. . . .

Started glassing the fuselage, got the canopy and bottom of fuse done.

The cowls for the Typhoon 2000 produced by Harry Ells are currently unavailable. In contacting Mr. Ells, he indicates that he has no time to continue production and molds are unavailable.

I should have posted this earlier. At the Glen meet in August I found out that Harry Ells is making fiberglass parts for the T2K. $60 gets you the canopy (fiberglass) and cowl with molded in cheeks. The cheeks on the Gator cowl have to be glued on. You can contact him here: [email protected]

Been hitting the Monokote today. . . just couldn't resist putting it together to see how it's going to look. The cowl is done, just needs one more color of paint then mount it.

Guys,

It's finally ready to fly (won't say finished - no plane is ever "finished"). Went out for the maiden flight last week, but had a bum aileron servo. The servo should be back from Hitec tomorrow, hope to get some inflight photos on here soon.

I dunno, I gots no plane =) I sold the T2K to Fred Henry.

I'll be back for sure, it's just a matter of when and how. My health had to come first, and you wouldn't even recognize me now. I'm not even the same person.

Plus, I dunno how many people I POd before I left =) I'm sure at least a few, but I HOPE not. I just had to get out and get my health together, and toy planes wasn't a priority.

It is now though dangit!

I'll be back, if not very soon, then maybe Huntsville. maybe with a hot new plane, hopefully....just no idea what right now.

Let me ask a question, why do you guys glass and paint as opposed to monokoting the fuse?
thanks

I happened to be doing just that this morning...for me, it was because of the fiberglass cowl and belly pan. I just couldn't see getting a good blend if I filmed up to the glass parts. (Not to mention trying to film all those fillets!)

I chose to Monocote the fuse. Reasons: ease and economy. I also thought I could do this adding less weight than if I had glassed and painted, especially since I have very little experience with this method. Yes, for the number of colors I used I could have bought paint, but I've got quite a bit of Monocote left for future jobs. I realize I increase the risk of dings to the very fragile contest balsa I used!

I finished the cowl with matching Monocote paint which was shined by sanding and compounding. The transition between the Monocote and the cowl/paint is visible, but, for me, acceptable. Many of the ARF pattern planes have bolt-on cowls where there is no attempt at all to blend them with the fuse.

I'll try glassing and painting my next one!

I wanted to post a closeup image of the nose of my T2K, but for some reason, RCU is not letting me do it. I'll try again later.

I ordered plans, canopy & cowl a while back from Gator and never received them. I e-mailed them several times without a response and canceled the order because of it. I've got a set of wings and tailfeathers RTF - just need to build a fuselage. I have a set of plans now courtesy of someone here from RCU (big thanks - you know ewho you are), but it sure would be nice to be able to get a cowl and canopy. I understand they'd had a delivery problem in that the fellow who was providing the cowls to them walked. I wonder if they'd ever found a new source?

The one improvement I have heard of is smaller wings and stabs, with some sweep forward on the TE. Suppose to improve the snaps and spins.
The 1100 in wing cannot help but be stable. Too stable for some I guess.
I have a T2K with D.G. Temptation wings and stab just being finished. Troy Neuman suggested the mod.

I'm working on a slightly modified T2K at the moment. Hope to have it finished in the next month or so. I notice alot of you guys glass and paint your planes. I've never glassed anything on this scale before, any tips you guys might be willing to share would help alot! I really like the look of a painted plane over a monokoted one but I'm worried about adding a ton of weight.
