Regarding "Go France", "Collector Series", videos on the internet, "Team Promotional Department"...

Thank you for following this thread.

As a Dad, I am very interested in meeting other families whose children ALSO have developed an interest in modeling. Personally, modeling has provided a lifetime of mentors, friends, positive influences, problem solving, experimenting, victories and those fantastic lessons learned, when one fails.

To expand on the Brett Wickizer video story, knowing that my kids watched it every day until it was removed from the EF site...In 2005, my family traveled to Muncie to watch the FAI Finals. I was sitting at Site 1, watching the flying all the while listening to the surrounding pilots talk about a new young person who won Intermediate. Later in the day, a young man sat next to me who looked familiar, but I couldn't remember where. Then the background conversations, the young man and the VIDEO all came together! The polite and engaging young person who was beside me, was the same pilot in the "Yak Video" (as my little boys scream), Brett Wickizer.

I am pleased that the sport has so many polite young people who are gentleman AND talented pilots.

A few more photos of the "Team Promotional Department" just after the Easter Bunny left. Tom is pleasantly surprised with the rudder authority on his new metal Corsair, although he tells me it has some pretty wicked mix problems especially noticed in the "roller" and the "S".

I think Steve has a great idea with the tatoos, I'm sure their mom wouldn't care for such a noble cause

Be a part of the USA F3A Support Team!

Project REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BIG STICK PLANE!!!

The 2007 USA F3A Stick Plane Contest is in "Turbo Promo" mode, with the upcoming Weak Signal's Toledo Show beginning at the end of the week. The "Team Promotional Department" will be on the ground beginning Friday afternoon debuting the complete collection of Team Apparel and the Official 2007 USA F3A Team "Giant" Stick Plane!!!

The attached photos show the mondo size, fully functional stick plane built using the exact drawings (you can down load from an earlier RCU post on this thread, www.nsrca.com or the soon to be turned "on" Team website: www.f3a.us) except they were enlarged to the following dimensions:

Wingspan: 31 1/4"
Fuselage: 33" without stick, 39" w/stick (1 meter or so...)
Weight: 260 grams ready to fly (?), 9.1 oz.
Plane design: Piedmont Models Focus II

There is NOT ONE GRAM of carbon fiber, honey comb, kevlar or fancy stuff...fuselage is 1/2" foam board with the wing and stab cut from 1/4" foam board using an Xacto knife with #11 blade. I had the copy store also enlarge a copy of the P-07 and F-07 "Aresti" drawings which were bonded to the completed components using spray contact adhesive (Duco). The stick is a 1/2", space-age wooden dowel with a 1 1/2" wooden ball, glued on the end. The parts were assembled using foam safe ZAP (green label), the fuzz was removed with a sanding block with 120 grit sand paper wet or dry...dry! Just like a foamy, the edges were taped using clear tape, to protect them from improper use (my kids have already "flown" in the living room) and the clear paint.

BadBrad Graphics was nice enough to spend an hour this afternoon, "tricking" it out, prior to my installation of the black canopy using vinyl and the Trim Monokote, chrome spinner.

A cheap clear art store high gloss spray paint, which the label said was safe for "foam and paper"...it was, gave it a little more pizzazz (Troy and Arch would say it will just add weight (See: "Zeque Build Glow Powered: Fuel Proofing"). All of the goodies were purchased at (HA!...you thought I was going to say...) Michael's Craft Store for less than $20 and the enlargements were about $18 at an Office Max Copy Center while I waited. The entire project including shopping, trip to BadBrad's and the construction was less than 5 hours.

I hope to take dozens and dozens of "Grab and Grin" photos in Toledo and share the story of the wonderful world of precision aerobatics and the 2007 USA F3A Team and beyond...I believe it is an excellent tool to explain the manuevers (drawn on the plane) and since it is about a meter long, describe the length to be about 2x...

A "Builder's Kit" will NOT be available nor will a RCU build thread titled: "Stick Plane Hand Powered" be created...

Regarding will it hover?

Mike, funny you should ask. I received an e-mail from a fellow modeler describing a completely hilarious video idea he is considering creating as a parody to other "Authentic" model aviation promo videos as his entry into the 2007 USA F3A Official "Stick Plane" Contest...if it were not just about the most incredible waste of time, you gotta think that "hovering" would be one of his/her "Key" demo manuevers to demonstrate in any potential "Stick Plane" video.

I assume there will be a Black magic "Stick Plane" entry submitted...?

The "Giant" stick plane and the "Official" stick plane...

The Post Office delivered my new "Official" stick plane created by model airplane artist-Raiko Potter, using the "Official 2007 USA F3A Team Stick Plane" template...WOW! It is very, very well done, to say the least. As previously mentioned it is covered in Monokote AND a sprayed "clear" coat...

The photos show the size, all important weight (it must be made with contest balsa) and relative comparison vs. the "Giant".

Thank you Raiko Potter (2007 F3A Team Assistant Manager) for your efforts!

Regarding an "Official F3A Team Foamy"...shazaam!

MR. Lachowski has an excellent idea! How about Insane Foamies...or...does anyone know these guys? I will be happy to explore while in Toledo. Gosh, I will buy a couple..."Go France"...achete deux choses (buy a couple in French...more pandering)..."bla bla" will buy a couple as long as it is of "Euro/Eastern" design (a huge amount of humor is implied))...I bet we could sell at least (20) @ $70 (leaving a sweet $15 as a donation to the Team.

Photo is of my 4.80 ounce RTF NE Sailplanes "Merlin" with Nano CPLR outrunner, GWS 8 x 4 prop, TP 2S 350 mah, Castle 10 speed control and ...(?) electronics...just to stimulate the converstation. It is a very well done sort a copy of the AITO (Euro) design.

More "Official" Team Scwag has arrived!!!!

In a previous post, I mentioned that individuals, families and businesses will providing a significant amount of effort and support of the 2007 USA F3A Team. I cannot say enough how pleased and proud of the commitment and support from "OUR" friends at Horizon, specifically, Team JR and Peter Goldsmith. I estimate that every day about a jillion modelers request about 10 jillion dollars of free stuff...well the Team was one of them and they said "Absolutely!"

Remember that JR sponsored my "2006 JR Future Champions Breakfast" at last years Pattern NATS and they will do the same in 2007!

There are number of special things in the works with the Team JR. The initial act of generosity is in the form of sending (25) genuine transmitter straps to Jim Woodward of Sew-Fly Embroidery (Official Team embroiderer) for NO CHARGE. The calculators should be running because when you purchase one of the "Limited Edition" JR transmitter straps for $28...just about all of the money goes to the Team.

Thank you JR and Troy Newman for making some calls!

Here are the photos of the "Limited Edition" JR transmitter straps...a little different than the Futaba straps.

Attention shoppers, may I draw your attention to the "Blue Light Special" in aisle...

The UPS guy was very pleased after visiting the house today and leaving the (9) very large boxes of stuff from the primary Team apparel vendor. Each item offers a unique combination of displaying the "Team Logo", simple style, are functional and a good value considering that each purchase is going towards funding the Team for 2007 and beyond. Personal taste and preferences will ultimately determine your over-all satisfaction.

Please remember that NONE of the $10 - $28 items will be featured at Neiman Marcus or favorite Resort golf pro shop, rather are well executed, within price points and target value. (In other words, if you think the stuff is over priced and cheezy, call me and I will return your money to prevent you from proving to everyone who thought you are a "!"...that in fact...you are!)

The next few threads will display hats, T-Shirt, Sweat Shirt and the tote bag in full color.

The first items for you to consider are the hats, consisting of a white hat with a blue bill and the (5) color logo applied with a heat transfer process. The other hat is tan with a black bill and the stylized Bryan Kennedy logo. $10 each.

More Team apparel...

The sweat shirts are gray and are of a medium material weight. Each features a black stylized Bryan Kennedy logo on the front and the (5) color logo on the back, both screen printed. My wife gave me the OK on the pricing:

Adult size Large and XL, $24
Adult size XXL, $26
Adult size XXXL, $28

These appear to be ppppreeeetty large...XXXL is well, XXXL even after washing in HOT water.

The final item for display for a while...the tote bags. Man, did my wife give me a hard time about these (coming from a woman with 39 purses or bags) She asked me..."Who is going to buy the tote bags?"..."Wow, I wouldn't pay $14 for the thing, but it is cool AND it is for the Team"..."Well, you know these guys?"..."I think they would be better at $12"...

Well, I said..."Honey, these guys recognize that they will need something to carry all of their new stuff in and it IS for the TEAM."..."Considering it has both a large iron transfer black stylized Bryan Kennedy logo on one side AND the (5) color logo on the other, great for sunglasses, call sheets, trophies"...(She smiled and left to have a night away from the kids with HER pals).

Come to think of it...many men carry TOTE BAGS!!! So, be the envy of your pals and demonstrate your self confidence (oh ya Rusty...no one is going to look at me funny...especially with that TOTE BAG at my side...)

Tote bag is about 15 1/2" x 15" x 3" with handles and is made of canvas, $14

Be a part of the USA F3A Support Team!

Meet your 2007 USA F3A Team Manager Albert Glenn and son A.C. Glenn...

Last August, I had the opportunity to work on a very special project with Tom Schwynn, Marketing Director of the AMA. While at the Pattern Nats last summer, I popped in to see Tom to discuss a few ideas to promote the concept that precision aerobatics is an excellent point from which to master one's ability to enjoy all aspects of model aviation from scale to turbine aircraft to IMAC... He agreed and invited me to work with him and the AMA's Ultimate Video Library series, specifically Volume 8 and 9 as well as develop the story line and potential pilots for 11 - 14.

So, with about (3) days notice I contacted Albert Glenn about he and A.C.'s availability to come to Muncie and film a flying and interview segment for Volume number 9. I arrived in Muncie about 2:30 AM to begin filming the next morning with the "Scot's, from SKS Video, the director from Minnesota and Tom.

My segment in Volume 8 is about 6:45 long and Volume 9 is probably out there and I have just not seen it yet. The photo shows the guys from SKS Video, myself, A.C. , Albert and Tom Schwynn.

When we were done the guys from SKS filmed my Team public service announcement you should watch on RCU Video's "Be a part of the 2007 USA F3A Support Team", QuiQue's website, Schulman Aviation or the NSRCA site.

More Toledo...

I want to thank QuiQue Somenzini, Wayne Ulrey, Molly and their team for allowing me to have precious table space for the "Official" Team apparel to be displayed...and yes, the 100cc Python biplane will be a welcome addition to my fleet when it arrives in August!

Just like the Tom Cruise movie, "Jerry McGuire", upon returning from the reincarnation of his only client, speaking to his girlfriend, Renee Zelweger..."Our little business had a very good day"...

I made a lot of progress meeting with the media including FLY R/C, Model Airplane News, Model Aviation, a primary goal of the show.

Our special, "BIG NEWS", announcing the new "Official" web sponsor, which has the market dynamics, technical expertise and passion for radio controlled aerobatics to present the Team trials in such a way as to benefit ALL facets of precision aerobatics. They are honored to "Be a part of the 2007 USA F3A Support Team" and are fired up to offer timely "Coverage" of a major world wide pattern event.

The Toledo Show also allows one to pack 9 months of phone calls into a few hours of running around. My second destination was an informal discussion with the leaders of the International Minature Aerobatic Club (IMAC) to discuss my views and get their input on the mutual opportunities and benefits to support the 2007 USA F3A Team. I am very pleased to share that the IMAC leaders are most interested in supporting the 2007 Team and recognize the value of learning to fly with precision, in my opinion, the foundation and "Core Competency" of the NSRCA. The first photo shows Dan Rathburn, IMAC President and I shaking on an optimistic future working together.

Finally, a number of manufacturers gave their commitment to be a member of the 2007 "Team Manager's Circle". The "Team Manager's Circle" is for individuals or businesses who provide at least $1,000 of support for the Team.

VERY TIMELY "COVERAGE" OF THE 2007 USA TEAM TRIALS!!!

Very timely and speedy "Coverage", Saturday July 21 on a computer near you! Not only will you see flying segments, scores, interviews with pilots you will also attend a number of other events I designed and have organized including:

"JR Future Champions Breakfast" which is to celebrate the Intermediate and Advanced class winners and competitors the morning of the FAI finals. It is customary for the #9 and #10 FAI pilots, who did not earn a spot in the Finals, fly the warm-up flights for the judges. One pilot will fly F-07 and another will fly the "Unknown". We will "mike" the caller for each flight to hear what is being said during these flights. Share a donut, cup of coffee with Intermediate and Advanced pilots, any NATS competitors and their families via timely "Coverage"!!

"Manufacturer XYZ Flight Achievement Award" which will be awarded to the highest raw flight score vs. potential score earned in ANY of the classes Intermediate, Advanced, Masters and FAI. I expect to announce the sponsor of this new award in the coming weeks. We will interview the winner and get the inside scoop on how they did it all via timely "Coverage".

"FLY RC Magazine Concours de'Elegance" will be award a "Champion" and "Runner-Up" as voted by each NATS pilot recognizing model design, construction, finish, graphics, control system installation and innovation. The builder of the model rule will not apply considering that many of todays models are collaborations of builder, painter, graphics and owner. You will see the winners and their models via timely "Coverage"!!!

The photos show the sponsorship/"Coverage" announcement made at the E-TOC Saturday evening.

More Toledo photos...

One of the best parts of the Toledo Show was seeing and visiting with new and old friends. I present the Don Lowe (The Don Lowe of the Don Lowe Masters) and Mark Radcliff (4 time USA F3A Team member!) taken at Team USA Toledo Headquarters in QuiQue Somenzini's booth.

Photo essay of the Team "Stick Plane"...

Many of us have an interest in IMAC models. Dennis and Caroline, of Carden Aircraft, produce a line of popular, high performance models...and had the wife of one of the Toledo Show entrants, signing a lovely photograph of his model and his wife...a model.
