You are right------less absurd----but still out of reason for most.
BTW I don't think you can put the blame on OS for the USA pricing. Donnie Anderson has never been bashful when it comes to placing the decimal point.

Just as an FYI - Singapore hobbies is selling the OS 200 (sport version) for S$642.90 which is about 425.00 US. Plus shipping to USA; would still be $450 or perhaps a bit less.
I'm not a huge fan of the EFI approach - too much stuff to go wrong. I suspect that US pattern fliers will figure out how to make the OS 200S a viable pattern engine in short order and at a much more reasonable price.
