Hi flybyjohn,
Unfortunately, MTK passed away last week; so no more helpful, insightful tips, sadly.
I would say go with what works and since the engine size is pretty small, I don't think you can go too far wrong.

Sorry to hear that MTK passed away. He was a great contributor to our hobby and he will be missed.

As far as the question about his switching from rubber to Velcro, there could be two reasons that I know of. I haven't used my mount for a couple of years since I switched to DLE's.

I did a LOT of flying and noticed that the rubber did wear and there was some "powder" produced after several hundred flights. It never caused any problems, just cosmetic. The Velcro may not produce that powder since it is slicker and may not wear that way.

The other thing is that the "slap" sound may be reduced with the Velcro due to the construction of the hooks and loops. My installation was not quiet enough for me to notice the "slap" sound, or maybe my hearing is not good enough to notice it.

I am sorry to hear about the MTK news. His information was very useful.

I will just keep a watch for anything coming apart on it like I was planning to.
