Man, this person, whoever it is, really hit a chord with you and Bryan. To me, it isn't worthy of a response.

    Well, Matt;
For starters, I had a long hard day. Then, the courageous no-namer flamed my country, our team, my best friend, then me all in the space of a few lines. And to be honest, few things get my goat quite like snide comments coming from behind a figurative skirt. Finally, standing mute while boorish behavior is flaunted simply emboldens them to continue.

I would be pleased to see any of a number of the top pilots win it all; so many of them were gracious to me in France. (Of course, I am rooting for our own team and feel their chances are good.) If CPL were to lose the individual title, look out for the French in 2009; he and Benoit would head an impressive team. I'm glad the two of them are not eligible at the same time this year to oppose our team! Never overlook the Japanese.... they hold an impressive collection of Team titles and place finishes. None better.

Individually; I like (in no particular order) CPL, BPL, QQ, Jason, Onda to finish high. QQ because of his dedication, Jason because of his abilities in the Unknowns, Christophe and Benoit fly so smoothly, and Onda does it effortlessly. These are the guys who are actually on the sticks flying the plane in my dreams, which I always think is me! After these five, it's a hard guess. But I do hope each of the others is able to produce his best flights. They are out there stretching the envelope for the rest of us, and deserve a great contest.

So is today a better indication of how things will play out, or do we still have to wait for every competitor to fly in front of every judging panel?

One more day plus TBL will be applied. If judges stay consistent thru all 4 prelim rounds TBL in theory will not have much effect.

    RE: 2007 F3A World Championships

    Srill means absolutely nothing.

All these scores are pure raw...no H-L drops no TBL no nothing. All judges have to see all pilots before the TBL and then normalizing can be done.

Also the raw scores tell really nothing of who is in the lead. Yes CPLR has a 619 now as a high raw score but in the end his 619 raw will be just the same 1000pts that Jasons 569 will be.

The difference in raw scores here is 40pts...It you look at the various "raw totals" the top 5 are all within this 40pts of raw....The end of the premilims will be the TBL calculations...This has to happen. The scores shown don't even have High low drops and this can make a huge affect.

This TBL correction to the raw scores is a benefit to all involved. Just as a H-L drop would benefit the pilots too and help eliminate biases. With the raw scores so tight between the top pilots reality is things are within 10-15pts raw normally this could really turn things over and bring guys that look to be lower up to in the hunt and also bring guys that have huge raw score leads back to the pack.

From the looks of it Onda seems to be pretty solid in the raw scores every round with consistently high raws. Jason and Quique look to be in a dead heat with CPLR also. I think its really anything goes for the TBL, and Normalizing.

The normalizing really plays a huge role that you will not see with just the raw scores. Adding up Raw scores can mislead you. If a pilot has a really high raw then it could put him higher in the ranking than he really was. After all a win in a round is always the 1000pt never more...so it doesn't matter if you beat everybody by 100pt raw...it still only counts for a single 1000 and another pilot that beat everybody by 1/2 point gets his 1000 and you guys are tied dead even based on that one round score.

4th day will tell the tale.

Yes for this Worlds the Prelims will determine the placings of the teams. Starting in 2009 that will change and will be based on finals placement.

Team USA is looking good...but we'll see how things TBL and normalize. From the scores posted I think the Top 5 are all really close in the hunt and they may shift positions but I think the top 5 will stay the same names just the spread on pts will reall tell the tale aft round 4.

Looong way to go yet. Semis and Finals yet to come. Don't forget, the Final is practically a new contest. Don Ramsey pointed out that there is no carry over score to the Finals...only reference to semis or prelims happens when breaking ties

W.Matt is one of the oldest competitors and is doing just great. Might even inspire me to practice more

Matt brings up the most important point: The guys in the top 10 guys don't care very much about these rounds. They're performance has no effect on their final standings. They're thinking about F and unknowns.

I disagree. They want the team championship and that seems to come from the prelims.

Since I'm the only one in the US to have and flown the Adventure. The Narlar bipe is the evolution, many evolutions of the Mr. Naruke bipes. The Adventure is extremely similar ot the Hand built Nishioka version of the latest Narlar bipe.

In fact Onda uses the Adventure to practice with. This means that it flies very similar. Onda used the Adventure Bipe to win the Japanese Nationals earlier this year. I have seen 3 view drawings of the latest Narlar bipe and compared to the Adventure. There are some subtle differences but the models are very very close ot each other.

The Oxai versions of Mr. Naruke, and Mr. Suzuki models are basically the same planes as the hand built versions. From the photos Mr Suzuki has an Oxai version of the Zeque with him as one of his models at the Worlds.

Yeah I like Onda I believe Onda has a good chance
and would deserve the win, I know he works hard and has a good design and coach
the japanese F3 effort is a well oiled machine
I saw Onda fly in France and he is "very "good
I did pick him to win
But I hope Jason proves me wrong
    good luck to both

    RE: 2007 F3A World Championships

I disagree. They want the team championship and that seems to come from the prelims.
If Andy Jesky continues to score as well, and stay with his Japanese and French counterparts, they will probably win the Team Championship. As tight as the scoring has been, 30 points is considerable ground to cover for the Japanese Team in the last flight for the Team title. Best 3 out of 4.

Yet, stranger things have happened... and with TBL after tomorrow's round, it's going to be pretty close.

    So True, my friend!
In theory, if two pilots are near tied, but one has more consistent scores, then the possibility exists that TBL will help that flyer.

In any case the team championship is very important to so many of us. I know that the competitors feel that way!

    best luck to ALL!

Matt brings up the most important point: The guys in the top 10 guys don't care very much about these rounds. They're performance has no effect on their final standings. They're thinking about F and unknowns.

I disagree. They want the team championship and that seems to come from the prelims.
I'm not sure how to type this without sounding sarcastic, but, I'll try.

tw, I had forgotten about the team results. My post and point was wrong.

QQ's airplane just has a funny look in the air in my opinion. When it is flying knife edge, I dont know if it is his scheme or that long nose, but it actually looks like it is flying in a nose down attitude. The plane is gorgeous on the ground, but when I judged it at the NATS I don't think it presented quite as well as some of the others I've seen. I've seen Troy Newman's Oxai Adventure and it didnt seem to do that. The plane obviously flies great as evidenced by QQ's scoring. And before someone jumps in and says "QQ could fly anything." That might be true, but if it wasn't great, he wouldnt be flying it. The top guys don't compromise when it comes to quality. They can't afford to. These guys are so close, that it is tough to overcome a handicap by the airplane when your competitors don't have to. Other people really liked his plane...I am one of the ones who just thought it looked a little strange in the air. It was very impressive flying the Unknowns though at the NATS..that is all I got to see of the F3A finals. This is where the bipes shine. They fly the F sequences and Unknowns really well because of their impressive rudder authority.

2 things I know for sure about this plane.

    1. QQ flies it really well and is obviously happy with it.
    2. The rest of us could fly it, and we wont fly like QQ just because we do.
Thanks! I think I understand what you guys are talking about now. Just the attitude compared to other models the plane presents in. O well looks like the judges at the WC is able to judge the model quite fine, let's hope it stays this way. Hopefully the guys from FG will get some video up (If they haven't already, just browsing now) of this bird, I'd love to see it fly hopefully with some cloud puffs in the background.
