Default Glow driver delay

Does anyone here know how to modify a Radio South Pro-Driver MK II to put in a delay start?
If that's not possible, is there an external delay I can buy to put in line with the glow cord?
Thanks,
Bob

Go to Radio South's web site and shoot Tony Stillman an e-mail. He designed the glow driver, an I'm sure he could help you. He's always very helpful.

Hi Bob

Here is the best and the cheapest way.
Just hold the switch attached to the langing gear with your left hand, rotate the starter with your right hand and flip the switch on whenever you want.
It works perfectly for me for 4 years now.

That's about what I'm looking for, but was actually hoping to find a small timer to put in line to act as the switch.

I would like to do this also, I was thinking if its possible to modify one of those little digital kitchen/egg timers to trigger it?

Set it at 10 seconds or so and hit start, get the engine spinning and BANG! then they normally turn themselves off after a minute.

I have one of these:
http://rcatsystems.com/electronics/ligd.php
For $5 they will put a 6 second delay on it.
It completely eliminates the "DZ Bump" when starting the 1.60
I'm guessing it is the last glow driver I will every have to buy.
I am the volunteer ad manager for the NSRCA, the AMA special interest group for pattern.
After buying an RCATS I wrote a review for the K-Factor.
If you'd like to read it PM me and I'll email the article to you.

Yes, I bought mine direct from RCATS so I could have the delay installed from the start.
I should contact Central and suggest they offer them with the modification too.
Anyway, when you call RCATS ask for Michael Luvara, the owner. I believe he does the
mod himself. It seems a shame that you have to send yours back to the States.
Perhaps you could interest someone that doesn't need the delay in yours and buy two more
with delay.
Just a thought.
One other thing, and I believe they mention it somewhere on the RCATS website.
The case is NOT hot fuel proof. If you get raw fuel on it the case will discolor. Doesn't effect
the function just the appearance. I bought the "glove" as well. It helps protect it from fuel, water, etc.
and also offers some shock protection.
It is the best glow driver I have ever had!
I would not hesistate to buy another.
Good luck!

Isaac - that's pretty much what I was looking for although I was hoping for a automatic timer that would close the circuit a few seconds after triggered. Anyone got ideas where to get such a timer?

Hi Guys,

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your units. In regards to the delay on the RCATS glow driver, it's certainly hard to please everyone. The number of delay glow drivers that we sell is a small percentage compared to the stock ones, so we have left it as an option.

If someone wants to try modifying their own unit, I am not opposed to telling you how to do it, but you must be able to work with surface mount components and soldering of such. The part that needs to be replaced is an 0603 surface mount part. If interested, email me at mike (at) rcatsystems.com.
