The fuselage is completely covered. Not a easy one: the use of a sock over the iron is imperative if you don't want to hurt surfaces

Betatester, what do you mean with "hurt surfaces"? Does the heat shrink the foam?

Thanks and regards / Abrazo.

I had the same issue with mine. The balsa in this plane is very soft. Betatester is right, you must use a sock or you will mar the surface of the balsa.

Yes Martinoto, dbacque apparently had the same problem that I had... I realize about the softness of the balsa wood not as early as I would like [:@]
Anyway, I managed to mask those sections...
These pics shows the cockpit paint effect... not as good as tint, but it gives a good look when exposed to sunlight:

Here are some other pics, showing the mounted cowl already painted. You can also see part of the belly and the painted muffler tunnel. I'm thinking about giving it a finishing clear coat to ensure its impermeability.
I started to work on the landing gear today. I think it will be not so nice as I want. We'll see.

Here are the pics:

Betatester, one more issue I have with my plane is the canopy. After only one day in the Texas sun it was starting to warp. It's now badly wrinkled and shrinking. I keep it covered with a towel now when it's sitting in the sun but the damage is done. Of course mine is painted but I've had many painted canopies before without anything like this. I highly recommend a towel while it's sitting in the warm sun.

I will have this in mind, dbacque. I already saw many people do so with CAModels' planes... maybe a material issue.
Thanks for the advise.

I will put this build on hold for about one week, as I will travel to Madison, WI for business reasons. I will probably buy some DS821 servos and a R790 receiver, just to stock them. Any idea about where can I get them from? I'm thinking about buying these and other accessories from CentralHobbies (online order) as they have the best price on pattern stuff.
Am I right on this?
Is there any other supplier at or near Madison?

I will prefer about walking into a store, just to browse toys

Thank you!

betatester21 what did you use around the edge of the canopy? Is that normal monokote trim tape? I like the look of the flat black.

Diego,

Yes the trim colors on my Epsilon are pearl MonoKote. One note if you use them, they don't cover very well. When a piece of pearl MonoKote has two colors underneath it, you can see the underlaying color line. The pearl colors look best over a white base.

Ok thanks you..

finally i decide for another trim for my epsilon..like somenzini's euphoria..its looking good and when i finish will post some photos..
here in argentina its expensive the monokote, and for pearl colors too much..and i only need half metter for each one..
now i'm finishing with the pull pull system, then i'll be covering the entire plane..

thanks you and sorry for my bad english

Dave.
Nice build and a good final weight. Thanks for the thread.
Just a thought. Rather than change out the engine when you are looking for more power, the OS 91FX is easy to upgrade with a (Macs) header and pipe with a Perry pump on an APC 14x10 or 14x12.

Rodney,

After nearly 4 years on my Epsilon with the OS 91 FX (and I absolutely loved that combo!) I was doing more advanced maneuvers that just required significantly more vertical than the .91 would offer. Like very large square loop on point and attempting snaps on the up-line of very tall stall turns.

Fast forward ... Nearly a year ago I re-engined with the OS 1.20 AX. I have a new airplane! I just sold an Epsilon 90 to my brother and told him to keep the 91 FX on it as he wouldn't need anything more at his skill level. But the 1.20 really extended the range of the airframe and opened new doors after I thought I'd reached the limit of the airplane. Now I can make unlimited height verticals with a snap roll in the middle and it accelerates out of the snap.

I know this airplane. A conservative engineering estimate put well over 10,000 miles on my Epsilon! And the .91 is enough for the flying that most people will throw at it. But if you want unlimited verticals with snaps or other more advanced maneuvers, the 1.20 will completely change the airplane.

Dave

Hi Dave.
I flew six years with a 7.5 lb pattern plane, with a piped and pumped 91FX in the Advanced Pattern class. A piped and pumped 91FX gives about the same power as YS 110.
Yes, you would get the same with the 1.20 AX, but some people prefer to go with a pipe which generally gives a 15%-20% power increase. So both set ups would turn a 14x10 or 15x10 APC.
Coming back to Pattern flying after a few years in IMAC, I recently converted the plane (a scratch built Desire) to an 8 cell electric set up using an E-flight Power 90 turning an APC 17x10 at 8,300 rpm, which I would say is even better

I just bought an Epsilon 90 kit used and when I opened the box there wasn't any instruction manual with it. I have tried to find one on the internet with no results. As a last results Iam asking for help. I would appreciate any help in locating a copy of the manual.
Thank YOU

Please send me your email address to: [email protected]
i have a scan of the instructions. I believe they were written for the Epsilon 90 with notes for any construction differences for the Epsilon 120 and Epsilon 40.
regards,
Will
