Hey everyone. It's been a while since I've posted here. I'm spending my first year in college at Georgia Tech. Had a hectic schedule first semester but hopefully should lighten up in the spring. Anyways, In the spare time that I do have, I've been making some drawings of potential scratch builds in the near future (Improvements of my GT Express). I was wondering what a good wing area I should aim for with a bipe with wingspan of about 60"-64"?

Thanks
-Chris

How do you judge if a plane is too heavy (or too light)? What are the characteristics of a heavy plane?

I'm flying the Sebart Wind 110 setup on the heavier side. The plane bounced around a lot in the wind and seemed like it could handle even more weight. The only characteristic of a heavy plane I can think of at this point is the glide slope, but with a stiff head wind and no 2000RPM idle (first electric plane) it was hard to judge.

Thanks,

Are there things for loved ones to do at NATS (who are not interested in calling)? What's the area like?

Muncie is sort of a typical down-on-its-luck small midwestern city. Lots of hotels and chain restaurants allong McGalliard, a small mall, shopping plazas, tatoo and piercing parlors and payday advance places. A couple of movie multiplexes, but not much else. There's a nice (but very straight and flat) running/walking/bike trail along an old rail line. There are some nice local-type restaurants if you get off the main drag and Ball State University abuts McGalliard, but we haven't found a whole lot to do there besides airplane stuff in our six or seven visits.

It should be lighter than a bowling ball.

There was a drag strip there in '99. It was not a great one, but fun to watch for a night.

My last club did a drag race at a Fun Fly - all season long there were contests on club night involving GWS Slow Sticks. They decided to do a drag race, down the strip, NO WINGS.

You would be AMAZED at how fast these things go!!! Never seen anything like it.

Ha, there's one at every field. and at my new field this is a very common occurance.

He usually comes over and says; " Nice plane, I've got one just like it, Gissa (give us a) go?" to which I smile sweetly and reply " nup! (no)"

I hate it when the "local expert" pilot shows up at the field with no planes, walks over to you while you are flying and ask you, " how the plane is flying!" Translation: "I want to fly your airplane, show off, then walk around giving unwanted advice to all.
.
Right after you hand me a stack of fresh, crisp, $100 bills . . .

Hey Rend,
I have a great idea, how about we round up all the club "experts" and exile them all to Australia! Now that's an original idea!

Windy, cold, snow showers this week-end. When is "global warming" going to hit this part of the country?
Guess I'll stay inside and watch RC crash videos. That always lifts my spirits.

Since I really have no need for a new airplane until I learn to fly the one I've got, I can't stop dreaming about this (it's a Triumph Sprint):

Knowing me, it will happen by summer. Once something is in my head (like starting RC or getting my first bike) it usually happens. Already reworking my budget plan to make it happen. The G/F probably won't like it so much, at least until I get her riding my 'old' bike.

Of course it won't be brand new, but something this decade should ride nicer than my 29yr old classic!

No thanks, we've got our hands full dealing with Oprah at the momemnt!

Surely there's a disused missile silo where you just push them into or something. Maybe put a sign out the front that says "looking for experts to fly my new oxai"!

Okay, how about the guy who comes over to help you start your engine that you have perfectly adjusted. He comes over and takes it upon himself to adjust your carburetor and says it looks like it was running too rich. Thanks to him I have learn to land deadstick.
