RE: F3A OPEN INTERNATIONAL, BOGOTA 2008
Hi Guys,
The Bogota event will forever stand out as an incredible experience for both Cameron and I. As a team, we worked together though a difficult situation and I hope earned the respect of our other competitors for doing so. As new persons to international competition, we appreciated that this event had a great combination of seriousness, a touch of informality, and a warmth that only South America can offer. From the moment Andreas and Oura (spelling?) picked us at the airport, they made us feel very welcomed and we started having fun.
Team Peru came together like groups of people have for ions. We had common goals and interests and helped each other. Julio and Ceasar are respectively, leaders of the Aero modeling in the cities of Lima and Arequipa. Hector and Marko are avid fliers and builders from Arequipa and want to begin F3A flying. Ceasar N. was able to make it on Saturday and as described to me, is the last Peruvian F3A champion, about 5 years removed from competition. The Bogota competition and Cameron’s and mine interest and family ties to Peru, were the spark that brought everyone together and ignited the interest in rebuilding F3A flying in Peru. We sincerely thank Roberto and the host club, as well as the fellow competitors for this opportunity to compete. We hope the positive outcomes of this event will last in the years to come along with the memories.
The highest trophy this event could offer us was the building of this new team and the overall experience of our first international competition. Flying with the great people from Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Suriname, Argentina, and the USA was an awesome opportunity that I hope more people will have a chance to experience. The Colombian team (Bogota folks and Federico) was very comfortable on home soil. Eduardo and Team Ecuador (some travelling with family) stood out as a well conducted team and professionally equipped for travel (thank you for the photo books too). Tuny, “Apereiraâ€, and Team Venezuela were all doing very well. John B. from Suriname travelled alone and we sort of adopted each other for help and calling. Marcelo may have travelled alone, but arrived befriended by all with no shortage of callers & helpers from the group. For the competition Jason had Arturo and his long time caller Dave S. to help out. We will definitely make plans to attend in 2010!!
Thank You,
Jim

Hi Jim, it was also great for us to met you both very good pilots, and encouraging peruvian pilots to return to F3A. Well done for both of you too.

Thanks Alexandro and Xavier - congrats on flying your Osmose into the finals too. Here is a picture of the last practice flight for all of us on Thursday night if you remember. Cold, wind, rain, dark! Cameron was flying, I was calling.
Thanks,
Jim

Yes Peru is back to the F3A!
From the night to the morning we have 8 F3A pilots (including you and Cameron of course), because some retired pilots back, others have been starting,... because Peru have a great past tradition in F3A and Cameron and Jim give us the impulse we needed !
We will have a national next month and planing a couple of F3A national contests for the next year, with more people we will have from the F3A-B.
This event it was the begining of our new era en the F3A, and it was so nice to know all you form Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Argentina and USA, specialy our appreciation to Colombia for organize this event.
We will be working in all is needed to organize our F3A, and always will keep you inform you all of our events here in Peru.
Great memories from Bogota 2008!

Jason - Cameron and I are coming to the Tangerine, and this time we are going to finish the job!
Just kidding - Hey, I had a blast flying with you down there. I would make the whole trip again and not change a thing. Crashing my plane helped put a lot of things in perspective about still having fun and such. Hopefully more folks can come to the Tangerine too. I may not have my PassPort done in time, but I'll borrow a plane again if needed, and I have my Aurora that is ready to fly now.
Thanks for posting all the pictures,
Jim

Well, the funniest joke I heard was something like this, "... look - if Jim doesn't like how his plane is flying he'll crash it!" Really though, I didn't like how it was flying and I happened to crash it. I snap-stalled it on landing, too low to power up and go around. I added power, and hit full throttle trying to recover. Totally my fault for not making a nice lazy approach. Lesson learned - I'd do it again for the total experience of this trip.

Ouch....that sucks.
Well, at least you had something to fly for the contest, and it sounds like you had fun....so, that'll work [8D]
See ya in about a month or so. Congrats on doing so well with a borrowed plane, in another country....no pressure!

I guess I better bring some bodyguards...LOL. It was a blast. It would have been easier for you had you not had the mishap, but you put that behind you and moved on and flown well for what you were against. Try to get a plane down there to borrow through Tangerine and get in some practice. Looks like FAI will certainly be a bigger class than Masters... and it won't be a walk in the park for anyone flying in it. I'll save the crash pics...lol. Flying at altitude has it's draw backs. I almost pulled a Jim during one of my comp flights..

RE: F3A OPEN INTERNATIONAL, BOGOTA 2008
Thank you Mike. The crash is now part of the story and was meant to happen for whatever reason. Without a doubt, Cameron sacrificed much in order for me to fly his plane and I am humbled that he did so much for me there. I knew the rules and was not going to ask. At the behest of him and the CD initially, I took to some practice flights. Before the compeition began the CD took a vote in the pilots meeting and thankfully it was unanimous that I would be allowed to fly Cameron's plane. I in turn promised to fly the simulator before my next international competition Thank you again to all the competitors for allowing me to fly!!!!!
Cameron has a huge heart and we all saw it first hand. His equipment was flown twice that of everyone elses and it held up just great. THANK YOU CAMERON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
