D3 Contest, Harvest, AL, June 20-21
A reminder about the Harvest, AL contest, hosted by NARCA, on June 20-21st. A very nice grass field, wide open, and friendly folks. Be sure to bring your pop-up shelters, as there isn't any shelter at the location they fly contests. Last area contest before the NATS. Event flyer is at this link:

No electricity where we will be flying. There is some several hundred yards away. The club will likely have a generator for the scoring system, and others probably will have some for charging electrics.
We are flying at one end of a full scale grass runway. There are no permanent structures where we will be flying. The normal area of the field where the club regularly flies is too close to a tree line for pattern. Where we fly is wide open.

Probably the closest hotels are at the I-65/US72 (Athens) intersection. There is a Quality Inn there that used to be a Hampton, or vice versa. I know you like Hamptons, but the closest I know of is in Madison, AL near the I-565/Wall-Triana exit. It will take about 20-25 minutes to get to the field from there. The hotels at the I-65/US-72 exit appear to be cheaper.
The field is about 20 minutes from my house, so I don't stay in hotels too often .

I'm probably going to ride over for Saturday (please don't stick a guy with lupus in the sun for 8 rounds? LOL this last week was not fun)
I might have to bring some parts with me to sand or something though....
And before you offer or ask, if by some miracle I get the wild hair to fly something, I'll probably fly Wingo's or Austin's plane. But only if I don't sense ANY danger in doing so. Nothing to gain (but a few flights for fun) and everything to lose so to speak.
About 90% sure I'm coming over though.

Anyone know for sure if Stennis and BOPOD are coming?
Extended forecast looks good for the weekend, but the weather guessers will probably screw that up before then!

Great contest, well run by Tom Batt and Ernie Duffey and the rest of the NARCA crew. Fast, efficient, and great hospitality. We got 6 rounds in in one day, in spite of 98 degree heat and 105 degree perceived heat due to the humidity.
These are the results as Iremember them;
Sportsman:
1. Huston Schweitzer (Imagine 50)
2. Rob Campbell (Spot On 120)
Intermediate
1. Victor Diaz (Genesis)
2. Kirk Sutherland (Evolution)
Advanced
1. Mike Wingo (Black Magic VF3)
2. Mike WIngo
3. Mike Wingo (Get the picture?)
Masters
1. Jon Lowe (Brio)
2. Greg Grigsby (Astral XX)
3. Marcio Jorge (Osmose)
4. Ron (Booffy) Van Putte (Genesis)
3 point spread between 2nd and 3rd, and 13 between 1st and 2nd. Close!
FAI
1. AC Glenn (Pinnacle)
2. Mikael Fedon (Spark)
Thanks to Al Glenn, Scott Smith, and Everette Carpenter, who didn't fly but spent a LOT of time in the judging chairs.
Watch out for Huston and Mikael; they are up and comers. Both will be at the Nats. If Mikael ever takes the time to set up his airplane, he will be a real force in FAI. Huston will fly intermediate at the Nats, and will now have an Aggressor in place of his Imagine 50.
Thanks again to Tom, Ernie, and the whole NARCA crew.

Jon again sets an example for those of us in the pattern community by giving a plane to a young man (Houston) to help him move forward into the greater pattern experiance and addiction that we all know. My hats off to Jon...

Wow that's really cool of jon!!!
Also congrats to Jon for his first masters win!
And uh, congrats to Wingo for his first avdanced win [8D]
I know what you mean about AC. if he was flying as good or better than Andersonville, that's going to be fun to watch in a few weeks!
Sorry I couldn't make it, but, I have my hands full down here. Might be beating a dead horse, then again I may pull off a miracle. We'll see.
See ya all soon!
