Default Wingtip Design

I'm rebuilding the wing on my Ultra Sport 60 out of foam and wanted some opinions regarding the wingtip design.

I'd like to to use this as an entry-level pattern plane.

Straight, rounded, "notched" or tapered?

AH, that's basically a Schuemann style wing tip. I take it you've seen it on the Oxai Inspec, and the Spark. It's not new, in fact it's pretty old hat, it came out in the mid 90's.

As for what works best, It's hard to say, a lot of guys around here have their thoughts on tips being window dressing, and others complaining that the schuemann tips make aircraft reluctant to snap.

My personal pref is for a rounded leading edge but a square trailing edge, but as I say it's probably just window dressing.

Since I doubt that you'll be using this airplane in anything over a Sportsman or Intermediate level, go with what looks best to you. I would say rounded tips as they look nice. I doubt you'll see any tangible gains over something exotic.

Good luck!

I think it looks fine. It's what most pattern planes have as well, I think you'll like it.

Will work great. Just about any symmetrical shape works fine at the RN's we operate under I tend to use the simplest designs that produce easy symmetry

On the other hand, IF the model needs a tad more wing dihedral/anhedral, shaping the tips accordingly will help...ie- dihedralled tips produce a bit of added wing dihedral and vice versa
