CDI ignition battery in receiver or direct from battery

RE: CDI ignition battery in receiver or direct from battery
Hi Amram,
I sent Oxai my Hyde mount for them to drill the firwall for me. When I got it back it was completely wrong! Something like 13 degrees wrong! A friend of mine in Ireland had the same experience so we both had to reposition the mount and add a tapered spacer as the firewall was incorrectly mounted as well. My spacer tapers from 5.5mm to 1.5mm and is very light, made of plywood with big holes so it adds very little. There was no additional support required for the LR85. It might be worth trying to source an Asano header as I think it is more compact than the Hatori 823. Having said that the Hatori headers are very good now and don't fall apart like...
Hi Apereira,
I use the Truturn spinner but if the CA models spinner is that much lighter I'd like to source one of those. Any idea what the spinners' code number is and where I can get one in Europe? BTW did I meet you in Argentina 2007?
Regards
Keith

My God...
CPLR told me not to send the LR85 to Oxai as they don’t use to work with it and no matter what, it will come wrong.
They have planned it to YS and he advise me keep it YS. Still I must say saving 60gr is an issue.
As I am changing my Fire-wall to Honeycomb so I was thinking of making it smaller so it moves forward to fit the LR85 position
so there will be no need for spacers...
I also want to try the CA spinner. I have sent email to Marcello as it is not shown on CA web

Hello Keith,
I think we did meet in Argentina, small world this of F3A and with RCU, jejeje.
There is a distributor in Spain, is listed in the Camodel web page, www.camodel.com.ar, if they have it it will be the best way to go, I always carry a spare cone in case I overtorqued and brake one, happened only once in years but you never know.
Remember I machined my backplate a little and saved 4.5gr, but because Camodel do not know who is going to use it, then it's made to withstand some abuse, if you think you need those grams off, I will measure it and tell you how much I took and worked for me.
Cheers

Hello,
After chaecking I give up on the YS mount and will go with Hdye mount.
My Axione comes with the Firewall not glued (Very good..) and as in any case I change it to Huneycomb I will
position it 4mm forward and use Hdye mount and save 50gr.
Regards

Hi Amram,
Is the 50g is the difference between the honeycombe part and the plywood / carbon part? Are you going to rienforce the Honeycombe at all and what thickness is it?
Just for my information, what is the weight of the complete YS mount?
I definitely think the Hyde mount is superior and the limiters will preserve the airframe much more than the YS mount.
Best wishes
Keith

RE: CDI ignition battery in receiver or direct from battery
Hello Keith,
In last 3 F3A 2M planes of mine (Onyx OS140RX, Synergy YS160DZ, Oxalys YS170DZ) I used 6mm Honeycomb.
No intensification were need. It works nice with no problem
But installation is done using 4 aluminum "top hat" shape Busnings (See picture).
This is to assure Strength around the screws holes in the Honeycomb and good strain dispersal.
The YS mount with all screws and support and nose ring will be 190gr
The Hyde mount with all screws and support will be 140gr
*** BTW, The Honeycomb and Bushings installation is an invention of our master builder
Issac Najary (I assume most people here are following his masterpiece Building threads).

Thanks for the weights Amram, I hadn't realised the YS mount was so much heavier. Is that mostly the adaptor from firewall to mount?
Best wishes

RE: CDI ignition battery in receiver or direct from battery
OK guys I have to apologies but I previously reported wrong data. Here is new data after actual measuring.
I have measured:
1) YS Mount with the FW bridge and YS Nose ring with all nut and screws. (No Oil)
2) LR85 mount with YS Nose ring with all nut and screws.
3) ARIA HDYE mount with YS Nose ring with all nut and screws. (I have anew one so I measured it)
Results:
======
- YS Mount with the FW Bridge and YS Nose ring with all nut and screws. (No Oil): 166.4gr
- LR85 mount with YS Nose ring with all nut and screws: 157gr
- ARIA HDYE mount with YS Nose ring with all nut and screws: 135gr
Installation spacing - Distance between FW and Motor back mounting screw:
===============================================
- YS Mount: 76.5mm
- LR85 mount: 74mm
- ARIA HDYE mount: 68mm
Assuming you are using original Oxai FW:
============================
- YS Mount: no changes requires
- LR85 mount: 74mm (FW needs to move 2.5mm forward or to add 2.5mm spacer)
- ARIA HDYE mount: 68mm (FW needs to move 8.5mm forward or to add 8.5mm spacer)
I think I will go for ARIA HDYE and move FW forward.

RE: CDI ignition battery in receiver or direct from battery
Hello,
I am on the muffler page now for my YS170DZ CDI:
2 options:
> Hatori 821 (length is 235mm)
> Hatori 725 (length is 165mm)
Any suggestions?

My Feedback: (1)
Hi all,
I have been out of pattern for 13 years, setting up a YS185 cdi on a Valiant at the moment and was wondering how everyone is powering up their cdi box?.
As I recall some people had problems with interference when they connected the cdi through the reciever and was wondering if that's not an issue anymore?.
Thanks for the feedback guys!

The best way to connect the Cdi is by using a Tech Aero IBEC. The ibec is installed in a spare channel such as retracts and the Cdi is connected to the engine from there. The ibec filters RF noise, is armed from the TX, and you can see when its armed because an led lights up. The ibec is light, about 20 grams, but the safety and convenience and most importantly, peace of mind, are worth the price which is low also. Good luck....visit the TA website for all the details
