RE: Plastic FAI Spinners??
These are the spinners I use : http://www.tonysmodelsandhobbies.co....earch=&sought=
This is the 75mm version, I actually use the 82mm version on my ZN airframes. They are light and have lightened alloy backplates.
Hope this helps.
Andy.

Joe,
These work great. I use them even on the YS stuff. They are the ones the Japanese guys run. they are the TY-1 spinners overseas. They work great.

RE: Plastic FAI Spinners??
Arch,
I don't think any of those plastic one comes in FAI style, unfortunately. Both my ProLine & Altair came in extremely close to 2 meters with the plastic spinner, one of them is actually slightly over.
I usually carried an extra T/T FAI version with me to the WC just in case.

OK, thanks. I hadn't seen them, but wanted to make sure you didnt have a secret stash somewhere. Thankfully my black magic is just under with one of them, but just like you, I had a TT with me at the NATS last year and got it measured before the NATS started to be safe. I'm under by about 1/8"

RE: Plastic FAI Spinners??
can any of you guys give me the length of your 3" spinners? I just put my plastic spinner next to a JZ Aluminum spinner and found the aluminum was shorter. I'd be happy if I could find a plastic spinner that was just a little shorter than the one I have.

Thanks Arch.
I'm starting to think about a TruTurn FAI spinner with a lightened back plate. I have an aluminum spinner that's 2 3/4" long and it looks amazing, unfortunately it's a Zinger spinner and the back plate won't work with my setup.
The issues with the TT are that I don't know how much lighter the 'lightened' back plates are. I have a 2 3/4" spinner and the cone is a lot lighter than my 3" plastic cone, but the back plate weighs a ton. I also have to think about a new prop adapter, and TT doesn't list one for 8mm shafts.
The plane actually looks that much better with a shorter spinner that I'm actually contemplating spending the $$ to switch to aluminum

How about cutting the nose off? Don't know if it is legal in FAI. If not, Don Atwood is going to have to forfeit all his wins in 2009. Just kidding Don.
It works great for cooling electrics.

RE: Plastic FAI Spinners??
I thought FAI spinner meant a special shape or taper that was required regardless of the length of the fuse. Wasn't FAI spinner an issue even before the 2-meter rule?
I heard that there was a rule, but that it is not enforced, is that correct?
Regardless of rules, I prefer aluminum spinners for I/C engines. Aluminum transfers heat and really help cool the engine. Feel your tru-turn spinner after landing your YS-powered plane next time and you'll see what I'm talking about.

RE: Plastic FAI Spinners??
I went with a Tru-Turn FAI spinner with lightened back plate. I'm about to buy a drill press and am going to tap the collet adapter so I can bolt the aluminum spinner right to it. Should be just about the same weight, maybe even lighter, of the big plastic spinner.
