Wing Bags
A while back I posted a question asking how you store your pattern plnes and came up withh some great suggestions from many different flyers.
Can I get your ideas on wing bags? I recently purchased some bags on a close out but found them to take up way to much room in my hauler. Is there a good source for 2m bags that are reasonably priced or how did you make yours?
The best bags I had came with an Ultra RC evolution. Didn't take up much space and did the trick. I also made my own with bubble wrap type insulation and duct tape from Lowe's. OK but would like to have a better method of construction.
Your ideas on construction or a supplier of a good cheap bag please?
Thanks much!
Rick

Rick,
The Carden ones are amazing. Yes, they are pricey at 75.00 a set for the wings, but they last forever. I've had mine for 4 years now and they look every bit as good now as they did when I got them. They are also thicker and heavier than any that I've found. They also have tail covers or can make them for you. I know the Black Magic tail set is 60.00, so for 135.00 you can get a full set that will last virtually forever and are really good and heavy. They come with handles as well.
Buy them once and forget about them.

Buy aluminum/plastic air-bubble insulation foil, aluminum coated on one side only. This is essential as will soon be clear.
Cut out two oversized pieces in the shape of the wing, align the foils on top of each other with the aluminum sides out and the plastic sides in.
Melt together with a flat-iron as used for ironing shirts. Don't apply the flat sole of the iron to the sheeting, but use the narrrow sides of the sole plate instead.
Use a long metal ruler such as a 3 ft piece of square aluminum tube as a guide for straight lines if desired.
This gives a neat clean melted seam, about 1/4 inch wide. Try out various temperature settings to get the best results. After sealing use a pair of scissors to remove surplus sheet at the seams.
Looks totally professional and costs almost nothing. The flat-iron technique makes it a breeze to put the bags together. Much easier than botching with duct tape or a sewing machine...
